Oil Metering Pump not working?

I've owned my 82 gsl for about 2 months now, and have really only been driving it the last month or so. I have driven it about 400 miles tops and have not noticed a drop in my oil level at all. Shouldn't there be a noticeable amount of oil that the engine burns? I'm thinking either it was disabled in the past or that it just simply isn't working. Question is, should i go through the trouble of troubleshooting it and fixing the problem or just start using pre-mix, like i've seen may people on these boards do?
thanks in advance for any advice

Premix now to make certain your getting the lubrication you need. Investigate later.

I can't remeber the exact numbers for the carb'd RX's, but with my GSL-SE, it only works out to a bottle every 8-10 weeks, or about once between oil changes....

well, after reading the big debate on whether to use MMO or 2-cycle as premix on numerous archived posts, i started using MMO since i had a big bottle of it in the car i was planning on using for oil changes. I'll find out later whats going on with the omp, but i don't think i'll be fixing it, i'll probably just premix from now on.

I know as far as output, the omp used on 12a's is only a fraction of the 13b's. My 12a only requires about a quart to maintain the level between 3k mile oil changes. You can always pull the omp hoses off at the carb or pump while the car is running and see if oil is being pump out. If in doubt just add MMO to the fuel as previously stated.

with the omp fully open the 2 tubes should drip 6cc over 6 minutes at 2000rpm. do this easy test if you want to make sure it is working.

The OMP is really, REALLY easy to rebuild.

Search for Lowe Performance. They offer a kit to rebuild the OMP for pretty cheap, and it's really bloody easy. I did it one afternoon while hanging out with some friends at my place. You have to call them because I think their website is down. And you couldn't order it online anyway.

At the very least you should be using 2-stroke to start with. Your car has potentially been running without lubrication for quite a while, and as you saw in the thread in the archive, MMO has much lower viscosity than 2-stroke or 10w30.
