Oil Light Comes On and the Pan is Full

No matter what I do the oil light on my 84 GSL continues to come on more and more. Oil pressure is good. I know that the oil pressure sending unit doesn't operate the light but I just thought that I would throw that in there. I made sure that it was topped up, changed my oil and filter, went to thinner oil, changed the sending unit etc. Now I have the connector at the sending unit disconnected and it still comes on. Is the oil level sending unit the ONLY thing that turns it on? If so then I think that the wire is grounding somewhere (I love chasing wires). If not then I'd like to know what the heck it is that is turning my light on.
