oil level sensor

Hey my oil level sensor is gone now cause I got a 77 engine in my 84 ok. Is this bad? I just need to know. I could get my old oil pan and plug hopefully but I need to know if it's really vital that I have this on my car. Thanks a lot keep it real.

Live Long and Prosper.....a lot prosper all night long.

As long as you faithfully check the oil level, and never have an oil cooler line burst while driving, you should be fine.
The level sensor was originally installed due to people who never check the oil, and ran them too low, ruining the engine. They would then expect a new engine from Mazda, even though it was their own fault.
The only use for the level sensor for real rotorheads that faithfully check the oil, is the unexpected loss of oil from a ruptured oil cooler line or oil seal, or the drain plug falling out from failure to tighten it.

Yeah, and keep an eye out for leaks. The oil cooler on my -SE started leaking so I had to keep topping off the oil.

The biggest danger, besides not checking your oil everytime you get gas, is if you blow an oil line, so keep an eye on those too, or just bit the bullet for new ones. Cheap insurance in the long run.

ok just a quick update. These people who worked on my car really want problems with me. The Oil level sensor was on my old oil pan which I was gonna swap out. NOW HEAR THIS. They sold my front cover and oil pan with the sensor off my old engine to MY FRIEND for 25 bucks. They are really gonna have problems with me I swear lol. They're gonna hate me. I need to know if a 86 oil level sensor can work in a 84.
