Oil leak

i have the s5 tii motor (ex turbo) mated to tii gearbox.

there is a damn leak which drips from between where the engine mates to the gearbox on the starter side. now obviously the leak is actually somewhere else....this place is how the oil is finding its way out.

now i suspect its gearbox oil because.....

today i drained all the oil, then filled it up with new oil...nice golden syrup.

then when it dripped, it was dripping black oil.

so is this a gearbox seal or something that is stuffed ?

check the oil level in the trans. if its not low, then it could be the rear main seal. even if the main seal was leaking fresh oil it would get blackend on its way out of the bellhousing by the worn clutch material thats all over the place inside of there.
