oil leak. Coming from the drivers side of the engine and is pooling just behind the mazda enblem. There is also a bit of oil along the seam between the engine housings. Thanks for any help anyone can provide me with.
Lowrider,
I have seen this type of leak before. Head over to you local NAPA parts store and pick some oil leak dye ( PN 765-2661 ) and a black light. Then you will find your leak, which my guess would be the o-rings under the oil cooler.

Probably the oil cooler. I replaced the o-rings on mine but must have installed them incorrectly, because it still leaked afterwards. And that area around the Mazda 12A stamp is the most likely spot, unless you have a dowel rod leak.
Its 2 or 3 10mm nuts and a 2 o-rings from the dealer.

Okay, Lowrider,
I had the same thing happen on my car, It's most likely the O-rings that seal the the dowl pins. If this is the case an engine rebuild is required to correct the problem. If you bought the car like this it's probably the dowl pins. The most common reason people use to get rid of their seven is the cost of dealing with a blown engine. Which is probably what happened to you. The cost of rebuilding a rotory (the correct way) far exceeds the market value of the car. So proceed wisely or you'll end up stranded on the side of the freeway like I did.

By the way, mine has leaked from the cooler for a long time. I will probably flush the radiator and change oil together very shortly so I can repair without a disgusting mess... I just keep a regular eye on the oil.
