oil cooler up front NEED PICTURE

I am slowly assembling my car after parts had been used to make the other car ( an 83 GSL) a complete car. why they did this I do not know after all the 85 GSL-SE is the more sought after car. anyways i have no idea how or where the oil cooler mounts to in the front of the car. at teh moment i have it strung up with mechanics wire so i dont have to worry about crushing it when raising and lowering the car. i have seen some picutres where it is mounted horizontaly and then in another it looked like it was vertical. Could I please get some verification on this?

Is this oil cooler the one that clips under the short radiator? If it is there should be some rubber mounts that you basically clip the oil cooler to and then screw into the radiator's main body... Do you have any pictures of this offending oil cooler?

I don't know if the 83 chassis has built in fmoc mounts or not. I suspect they may due to international markets. The 85 FSM has a diagram in Sec 2, p. 2-3, of both the beehive and fmoc systems. While the diagrams my not show the mounting points, it will show the routing of the system.

If you can't find mounts on your chassis, take a look at my writeup in the archives on how to install an fmoc on a beehive equipped car. Link to the write up is in my sig.

th eSE sould have a bracket on either side of the cooler. the cooler has a mouting int tab and a mount on each side of it at the top. the oil cooler is secured by two 10mm bolts on each side. i can email you a pic if you would like. for some reason my photobucket account is acting up.

by the looks of things they both had fmoc systems on them. but looking at mine i believe the guy i bought the cars from was in to much of a hurry and broke the mounts so i'll have to fab some new ones. I had seen a picutre where the oilcooler was horizontal infront of the rad. i'm not sure how well this would work because there is less airflow going through it than if it was vertical but i could always add a bunch of smaller fans. It would greatly decrease the possibility of it getting it by a road hazard

The horizontal one may have been mine. We didn't count on the space restrictions and I should have gotten 45* AN fittings instead of straight ones, so we just mounted it at an angle so the lines would run under the rad. I intend to make new mounts and get other AN fittings to do the job properly.
