oil cooler repair

i have the under the radiator style oil cooler and i am 99% sure its got a leak in it, and not near teh hoses...

what should repairing it cost and what kind of shops would do the work?

its a daily driver so i am trying to minimise the downtime and expense

You mean to say I just wasted $40 dollars getting
mine fixed. oh well just have to see how long it lasts I guess. Even a used one could crack at anytime
its just a bad design. If it goes again I will
put in a second gen cooler and be done with it.

I guess It depends on how badly its cracked lots of
people repair them

http://rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq/bguide/bguide.html
http://rx7.voodoobox.net/index.html

Also the factory manual says and I quote

Visually inspect the oil cooler for damage, crack and
leakage.
If any problem is found, repair it by aluminum
welding or replace it with a new one.

So its up to you I say check it and see how bad the crack
is then find a local welder who does alumium welding
and see what he can do.

I had to do all the work taking mine out and
and testing it I have lots of time to work on my
car as it is not a daily driver.

Finding a good used oil cooler is getting kind of
hard not many cars like these in the local scrap
yards. I am not going to spend on a new one
as they are very expensive. and until I put some more
miles on the car I am not willing to start sinking
lots of dollars into it
