oil cooler question

about to install an use (checked) oil cooler in my 79 gs
the only Q i have is the foam pc that goes inbetween the rad and the cooler
Do i need this? what is this for?
any other heads up with doing this would help
Does the foam go under the oil cooler?
it's been so long since i took the orignal one off i cant remember neddless to say i no longer have the old cooler.

FWIW - I did NOT replace the foam bits on my 80SA oil cooler after getting in sonic cleaned. I was afraid it would rattle against the water rad, but so far no problem. Likewise under the cooler at the undertray - no rattle there either, so worth a shot. Foam might still be available from Mazda. Probably not too $$.
BUT: do INSPECT the 2 rubber rad mounts for the FMOC!! These crack and fail with age. If yours are original, they will be in poor shape. These are unique to our SA RX7s and "should" still be available from Mazda. Get them while you still can! Mazdatrix sells these OEM parts too.
-AND: take care when tightening the oil hoses to the rad. Should replace the copper crush washers, but regardless, DON'T OVER TIGHTEN or you'll crack the rad !

Welcome - great to have another SA owner in the Flock
