Oil change time/smoking
Oil change time/smoking
OK recently when i start my fb it hardly starts( yes good plugs and good battery) once it does the engine seems to shake then smooths out and blueish whitish smoke come out the back... after that it runs fine. It could be that i had too much premix in? I havent been keeping the 2 cycle brand at a constant so i dunno if it softened up the oil seals or what.
THis time when i flled it up with gas (it had a little bit of premix gas in there) i put no 2 cycle in it still smokes a bit. Also last night at walmart the car hardly started in the parking lot i had to crank it many times /choke it. Now the car warms up faster and i dont have to restart it in the mornings and tonight the car started instantly.. so maybe it has burnt off the last of the cycle oil? What causes the car to shake on start ups?
One more question since its smoking some i have been using castrol gtx 10w-30 should i switch to castrol gtx 10-w30 HIGH Mileage oil since its starting to show its age? Its getting its oil changed this week.

Almost sounds like you have a seal or 2 sticking. You might try cleaning out the carbon, if you haven't done this lately.
Pre-mix does not soften the oil seals. Since the smoking go away after the engine warms up, the oil seals should be ok.

Make sure that your oil level is not too high. When you change your oil, you can add up to 2 quarts of Lucas in place of regular motor oil. This appears to have reconditioned my seals enough that I don't have any more smoking, and no longer need to use Lucas for it to stay that way. I am a huge fan of the stuff....
my 7 smokes a bit at startup....I've been running 10/40 summer 10/30 winter- Royal Purple and 1 quart Lucas...maybe I should up it to 2 eh? and at 5.8q normal capacity with filter change my dipstick reads quite high..she seems not to need that much
Fo sure man get you some of that lucas that stuff is awesome! I used it in my 7 worked great. I also used it in my Pinto worked wonders on that ol beast! Id try that and see what happens!
any specific lucas oil to get? just add 2 quarts of it into my oil? Sticking seals seems very possible.. i guess thats why its having such a hard time starting...i guess i will need to take it up to about 7k to get that crap out.
The full name is Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. Most autoparts stores (Autozone, Advance) carry it. Plan on spending about $6.00. I replaced two quarts of oil when I did this, and the results were excellent. Before I tried this stuff, I did a little comparison. My wife was trimming the hedges (good girl) and the trimmer sounded pretty rough. When I looked at it, the blades that slide against each other were dry and rusted. I placed a small amount of Castrol 20/50 at the tip on one side of the blade, and some Lucas on the other. When I started it up, you could watch the Castrol working its way down the length of the blade at a rate of maybe 5 seconds per inch. When I looked to the other side to check the Lucas, it had already reached the base of the blade and was covering it with this stringy kind of coating stretching between all of the blades. The time it took was under 10 seconds, or about the time it took the Castrol to move 2" down the 18" blade. After seeing that, I had no worries about trying it in my 7. I was blowing buttloads of smoke out the tailpipe whenever I would decelerate, due to oil being sucked past the control rings by the suction of the rotors. After a day of driving with the Lucas in, no issues since (8 months, 6,500 miles). Couldn't be happier!
(and no, I do not yet own any stock in the company!)

I know this sounds stupid but yes i take my car to jiffy lube. I used to change it myself but i dont like jacking up my car as it bends the subframe things and is vulnerable to rust. Besides i watch them do it make sure they dont hurt it. but my point is they will prolly think i am crazy putting 2 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer i cant wait cause my car is starting to smoke so i am aggervated. in the morning blue smoke comes out at night it puts out white... aka coolant seals.

Not to bag on the Lucas, but on my first rebuild, I bought a gasket set and put a moter together from several used ones I had laying around the shop. The oil seals I used were much worse than I thought and the engine smoked BADLY. I had installed an FC fmoc on the 12a 1/2 bp and I went through 5 qts. of oil and 6 gal. of gas, mostly idling in the shop.
I put 2 qts. of the Lucas in and it didn't help at all. The seals were too far gone. When I tore down the engine to rebuild it properly, with all new seals, i had to clean everything up again because I had toasted all 4 bearings and the e-shaft. When I went to clean out the oil cooler, I couldn't get it to take solvent or Brake Cleaner. It was full of the Lucas and I could not thin it out enough to even drain the cooler. I eventually got the Lucas out by blowing most of it out with compressed air. After many filling and drainings with solvent and brake cleaner, I finally got the cooler flushed and clean.
My suggestion is try one bottle for the first oil change to see if there is any improvement. I think 2 would be a bit too much, especially with cold starts.

I couldn't help but notice how thick that Lucas stuff is..took a few minutes to get a quart into my 7......like honey..one could tip a bottle of it and simply right the bottle at their convenience

Maybe you don't need to premix. Is your OMP not working or putting out no oil at all ? If you premix then you don't need or want the OMP in the picture, you'll have too much oil and end up with lots of carbon buildup.
