I have a 1982 RX7 GSL. All stock except the engine has been ported so I have to take it in a get it timed. Anyway when I change the oil the dip stick indicates full at 4 quarts with the filter change and the book says I should be able to put in 5 and a half. I purchased the car from a rotary engine mechanic so I think he knew what he was doing when he put this engine in.

Problem or NO problem?

There is some oil left in the oil cooler that is not getting changed.

Does the book say you should put in 5 and 1/2 or that it is the capicty?

 

5.5 quarts is the system capacity I believe, and 4.2 or 4.4 quarts is the oil pan capacity.

Thanks for the input. The book says 5 1/2 quarts with the filter change. I'm not real concerned as I change the oil every 3000 and check it at least once a week. I always use either a WIX filter or a Napa Gold.
