Oil Alarm

I got an oil alarm this morning when I was warming up before heading to work. (I ended up takingthe Honda )

I have an '85 SE with 64,000 miles. I have 2500 miles on this oil change.

Last week on a 90+ day I was in traffic idling. The engine heat started rising (still well within normal) so I shut off the AC and opened the windows/moonroof. The heat went down to the everyday reading (just above the lower solid line). Later, in a traffic jam, the idle RPM sunk below 1000 (to 600 I think) and the oil preasure started to drop off. I was stopped on the freeway anyway, so I shut down for a few. When I resstarted the preasure came back normal, and I have not been letting the idle go down so low.

fast forward

This morning I backed it out of the garage and was warming it up before heading to work. I got out to grab my computer bag, and an alarm started going off. I looked at the telltales and shut down immediately. The "OIL L" light was on. It is currently in the driveway, and I'm driving the CRV...

Opinions? I've only had my RX since Feb'03 so I am very new to rotaries.

Thanks.

would the low level also cause the preasure drop off at low rpm?

It could just be a faulty oil level sender. Is your oil low?

Changing the oil isn't a bad idea, but it my not solve the problem....

If you want an all season oil, 10w-40 will do, but beware that this extended range of oil weight if made by probably starting with a 10w-30 and adding viscosity improvers, that will quickly shear down. If your going with 10w-40, change at 3000 in the winter, and 2000-2500 in the summer.
