Oil

How much oil does the stock 12a engine take? I know my book Haynes manual....says 5.5 US quarts....but that seems too much.

That should be including the oil cooler. Try 4-4.5 qts.

well i had 5 quarts on me...so i added 5 quarts.....havent checked it yet as I live/work 120 miles from where the car is

I believe that in the back of the Haynes manual it states that the '84 and '85 models take 4.9 quarts. I think it's due to the beehive type oil cooler.
