Oil...

Hi I know that its not a good idea to run synthetic oil in the rotary engine, however I noticed an Oil post in another thred and am I really suppose to run 20w 50 in this car? that seems terribly thick oil, right now I have 10w 30 or 10w 40 I think.

^^^ Myth. Many people say that without proof, but many people use synthetic oil and will argue that synthetic is better. Synthetic oil has come a long way since people first started saying that, and now there's really not much difference between the two oils. Basically the only difference is that synthetic causes burnt particles and stuff to flake off and wash away. Natural oil causes those burnt particles to stick to the oil, which if you think about it, makes it all gum up inside there. (Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong)

As for what kind of oil, (10w 30, 20w 40, etc.) It really doesn't matter besides what temperature your car runs at. For higher temps, you'll want the thicker stuff. Now that winter's on it's way, you might want to go with something thinner for easier starting at really low temps.

Slick 50 is scientifically proven to do absolutely nothing useful except remove money from your wallet. And that is only useful to the makers of Slick 50...

Didn't someone do a ...semi-scientific experiment. They burned a teaspoon of plain ol' motor oil and then a teaspoon of synthetic.

RacerX7fb,

The site http://www.strike9.com/ Lets you post some pics for free. Its not the fastest but seems to work well for smal postings.

Im inerested in the discusion as well. Ive also heard that the Rotary engin should use 10w30 not 10w40. In the summer I always use 10w40. Always thought Thicker is better. Is there an issue with using higher viscosity?

I use 20w50 in the summer with a bottle of MMO add for good measure. In the summer I run 10w30, again the MMO added...

I just want to reiterate that I originally replied with very carefully chosen words.

Just remeber this: Neither oil HAS BEEN PROVEN to be better or worse.

Many suggestions are good but...

Use whatever oil is your preference, and you will be just grand!
