OHHH YEEAAHHH - Spring setup
First off, know that I am a cheapass...
Well, in the last couple weeks I have been trying to find a spring that will replace my saggy/crap stockers. I thought about just throwing my 85 GSL springs under it since they didnt sag, but decided if I can get something else that is better for cheap/free then that would be better.
OK, so first I compare the stock spring from GSL to my stock protege spring (it has Eibach pro's). Wont work, completely wrong. I call a friend of mine who happens to own a 1990 300ZX. Tell him about my idea, and he says something like "well, **** man I got those twin turbo (300ZX) springs from that one guy for free. Come check them out". I say cool, and I am on my way. Compared the GSL spring with the 300ZX spring, HELL YEAH. Pretty damn close if you ask me. Slightly smaller diameter, but considerably taller (about 1 1/2 coils). So, with my handy-dandy grinder I simply remove 1 coil and install. It is extremely stiffer than stock.
Measurements BEFORE: 10.5 inches (where I measured)
Measurements AFTER: 11.75 inches
Measurement of GSL while still on car: 11 inches
Note that my springs sagged alot before.
Also, there was almost an entire coil difference when I compared the 2 stock ones.
So, basically it lifted me about .75 inches. Not too bad considering it is so much stiffer, and gives that old "american muscle" look. Yes, please flame me for saying that.
Now, some of you may be asking "why didnt you just cut another coil off?"
Here is why: My fuel pump sits way too close to the ground. When you are driving and you hit a large dip in the road and you hear a crunch and SEE sparks shoot out, you know that is bad. Also with it lifted a little bit, it looks really aggressive and handles really good. Doesnt fishtail at all in wet now when I kick the *** end out. Comes right back to where its supposed to be.
To be honest with you, I would take pics, but I dont have the camera with me right now (mom took it back). I will get some though. I do need to replace the front springs also since they have sagged about as much if not more than the back ones. Once new springs/shocks are on it wont look as retarded. I am ok with it for now though.
Let me know what you think, and yes I know that this thread is useless without pics.

So 47 views so far and no one sems to care? Geez lol. I have decided though that I am going to cut one more coil off and see what happens. Maybe I can get closer to stock height and still be stiffer. Now that I have driven it more, I noticed that my front springs are shot as well as shocks. I knew about shocks being messed up. I will update as soon as I get back from the manson concert and I have time to take everything back apart.

Pretty good. Not exact though. Basically fits about half way down if that makes sense. While it was still up in the air and the spring was "sprung" I kicked it trying to see if it would fling out and did not. Good enough for me.
Hmm, stiffer huh? Might not need new shocks after all. MUWAHAHAHA. More money saved hehe. Hopefully, the fronts will fit as well. I mean, the 300ZX weighs almost twice as much (exaggerated) as an FB.
EDIT: Also I will get some pics hopefully of how well it sits on the perch. It fits damn good up top I must say.

Update. Forgot to get pics, but will get them today. Also, I ended up cutting a total of 2.5 coils off and it sits basically stock height. Very stiff and rear end doesnt drop much if at all when I launch from a standstill. Next, I will be trying out the front springs. I am just waiting for some extra cash to buy new shocks. I may end up throwing the other stock shocks off my parts car on there for now. Pics soon to come...
