Oh no.............hope i didn't just lose a rotor :(

im still searching the archives but in a nut shell i was driving normally this morning then when i started accelerating from a red light my power went KAPUT! I lost almost all my power and i had to keep the revs at about 3 to 4k to keep the engine from dying. I did make it home though but it had very VERY slow acceleration and no power at all. It was instantaneous too...one minute fine..next minute terrible. I think i know what it means but im looking the the archives to see what other things it could be besides an apex seal gone bad. This is the last thing i needed right now. DAMMIT!

well looking at this other thread

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...mpression+test

someone suggested it could be a leading coil or ignitor. My symptoms are very similar to the guy who made that thread.......this is where i wish i had a spare ignitor lol

i went to go start my car ans she started right up...but it still does not have any power...seems intersting that she started right up though...maybe that does not have anything to do wit

Start simple; ignition is the easiest thing to test, then compression (whoosh test), then carb issues. Piece of crud plugging a vital circuit in the carb could come on like a coronary.

Check to make sure your teeter totter hasn't fallen off, too, but I doubt that 's it.

yeah im starting with that....ignition first. Im REALLY hoping its that. My carb was rebuilt last year in March/April '08 so i hope it's not a carb issue. and i REALLY hope its not my engine

For what it's worth, your symptoms remind me of the behavior I had way back when I lost my leading ignitor. I couldn't get a startup, but otherwise, similar to what you described; power dropped like someone turned off a switch, could barely limp it home.

On SA's the trailing is set up to cut out during low-to-mid acceleration (smog reasons), so it was hell trying to get it past 3k rpm, then ran like one of the squirrells had died.

yeah man i hope its just that. It was a bitch to get it home revving it to 3-4k....and to the squirrel comment. Thanks for the advice

ive never done the WOOSh test myself...do i unplug the fuel pump fuse then take off the leading spark plug on each rotor (at a time) and then check for 3 wooshes?

Ok i tried the comprrssion test.....the back rotor has three strong wooshes....the back rotor...i can barely hear anything...i just hear a tick while its being cranked.... i took a small vid of the potential bad rotor but you hear more of the starter cranking than the anything else...hope its clear:

Bit confused by your last post. Do you mean the back rotor had 3 strong pulses and the front you can barely hear anything? I looked at your video and i really couldnt hear anything besides the starter. Try turning the engine over by the main pully with a socket and racket and see if you hear each rotor go "woosh" like front then rear front then rear front then rear. I know im explaining this poorly but you should get the idea. It will be easier to hear each pulse but turning it over from the pully and not using the starter.

that video showed consistent 3 pulses out of from what i saw the front lower rotor plug hole, id'e suggest taking both plugs out of the same housing to hear more
from what i herd it wasn't loud enough

Could have broken a side seal which will result in overall low compression on the front rotor. Dont take my opinion for granted tho.

yeah its dead . A good friend of mine came over we checked the spark on the car and other things and that was fine. We did the pulse compression test and there were full pulses on the rear rotor and absolutely nothing on the front rotor. So i have a dead 12A. Time to go 12A shopping.....not exactly perfect timing by any means by hey that's life.

Id be interested to see if the engine ran lean when it blew that seal, but your plugs are all gas fouled now to give any indication. Definitely put new plugs on your new engine when you get it and see how they are burning if your gonna be running the same carb. Wouldn't want it to happen a second time.
