Not wanting to go!

Ok recently my car has started to try to cut out on me.. Everytime i try to go high performance 5k or above the car will bog. I was trying to accelerate away from my friend my car jerks for a second then rpms drop from 5500 to like 2k then it smooths out. 1st 5k -fine 2nd -5k -fine 3rd it will not go past 5000 and into 4th it continues to stutter until i drive normal 3500 rpms. The fuel filter was changed less than a year ago, could it be my spark? I noticed the end of one my plug wires had actually been partially broken off. Or could i be needing a nice fuel pump?

you wouldnt need another fuel pump unless your current one is bad if youre on the stock carb. i had a similar problem with my car jerking at high rpms and it ended up being an ignitor. id start with the ignition.

what? just replace the coils, at the least tell him to test them before throwing parts at the problem.

forget the coils, just replace the whole damn engine. Obviously there's something MAJORLY wrong with it. These things have those crappy triangle things in them don't they? Don't even test anything. Take it out. End of story.

I would test the ignition components..... and just for kicks i would check the fuel filter... (maybe you have a bunch of crap at the bottom of your gas tank, that just keeps clogging up the filter.)

I'd still recommend changing your fuel filter anyway. I've owned an FB for the last 11 years and every time it started to bog in the higher gears, it was the filter. Although, one of those times it was the ignitor. There's a simple test for that too. But basically, test what you have before you go out and start buying new coils etc...that way, you can be more sure of avoiding disappointment with having money spent on new parts and being no closer to fixing the problem. You said that you replaced the fuel filter within the last year. When was the last time that you drained your gas tank? Do you let the car run below a 1/4 tank? If so, you'll get sludge in the filter which can rob performance at the top end.

I have a low wiper fluid light, but not one for the fuel. I didn't know that they had that as an option. I'd recommend not letting it go below a 1/4 'cause they'll be a lot of sediment that will clog up your filter pretty quick. Change your filter tomorrow and see what that does. Let me know how you made out.

you know you are gettin fuel ..car is runnin..you said one of the spark plug leads was broke off ..then that's a problem...get another set of wires..and while you are there..Get a set of plugs too..most likely that plug is on the trailing..and it is fouled from intermittent spark..so a lack of power ..you changed your filter last year..so I doubt it would need changing again..

Wow, EXACT same problem I'm having now, and after reading what someone just said, I think I know why; coils or filter. haha i actually ran out of gas 2 days ago, and put just enough in to make it to the gas station, so I'm sure I clogged up the filter. I do need to check my coils though, how do you guys go about checking them?
