Not starting starter not turning

I try to start the car and get no clicks or anything from the starter, is there a relay or some thing I should check on? It seems that I remember seeing somewhere that there is a fuse mounted somewhere on the firewall that I should check out to see if it is burned because my starter does not even try to turn.

Also how would I check to see if my engine had any warp damage picked up the car for $800 and it seems to be leaking oil, yet the level never changes on the dipstick? It was sitting at a shop for some time and the owner never payed the bill so I picked it up and got the title free and clear. I am not sure the shop know much about rotaries as they are mostly a Porsch shop.

I had it running before for some time let it run for about half an hour to let it clean itself out. Ran solid, reved it up a bit after about a 10 min warm up, hope that was long enough just looking for some direction in getting it started again.

Thanks for any help.

Kyle

try push starting the car.... if it works then id say you have a bad ground somewhere (more than likely your batter terminals...) a bad starter, or a blown fuse...

good luck

Get a Heynes manual. They're only like 20 dollars and worth their weight in gold.

Last summer, when I was having trouble diagnosing a similar no-start problem I used the procedure listed there... Basically you first check the circuit that the starter is on is getting power (if memory serves I think it's connected to the headlight lifters... or something..). If that's getting power (or even if it isn't) you check the fusible links on the side of the driver's side front shock pillar in the engine bay.. They look like three wires that loop in a "u" shape from some sort of small box. When those go bad, alot of crap can go bad.

Then you check the starter itself. Easy enough to remove, 2 bolts and it pulls right out. Just take it out, attach a set of jumper cables to the battery, and then to the terminals on the starter. If it turns, it's good, if not, replace it.

Hope it helps. Get the Heynes, but here's what you can try without it in 3 quick steps:

1. Try all other electronics and check fuses (which I see from your last post that you did)
2. Check the fusible links.
3. Take the starter out and check it.

If all that works and you *still* can't get it started, get the Heynes, because mine's 30 miles away and I can't be bothered to write the entire electronic diagnosis procedure.

Easiest way to find out if it is the starter or not is to take it out of the car, hook up some jumper cables to your battery, hook the negative to one side of the solenoid and touch the positive to the other lead on the solenoid. When you do this, you should see the starter kick in and the gear should come out to try and enguage. It is only two bolts to take the starter out and two bolts for the poser leads. Takes about 5 minutes to remove it. No big deal. At least this way you will know right away if you are dealing with the start or the solenoid.

Just a thought.

Also, check the wire that runs from the ignition to the solinoid. It is a clip on the starter's solinoid. May times that can just come loose and you won't get the signal to the solinoid to engage the starter.

Disconnect the spade lug from the solenoid and insure that you get 12V at that connector when the key is in the "start" position. If you have 12V present, make sure that you also have a good 12V at the starter itself (the big cable). If you have 12V at both locations, the starter is bad. If not, the problem is somewhere in the "upstream" wiring. No need to remove the starter to check it with this method.

After crossing out the solenoid or starter or connections there-of as the problem, here's something else to look at. All of your symptoms matched mine, but I was carb'd....don't know how relevant it will be to a GSL-SE...

Alternative thought #2...

Hope it helps...
