Lightbulb HIGH Voltage!!

OK, So i get off of work tonight, get in the old 7 and warm her up for about 3 minutes, and i turn on my tunes, I have a rockford 300s amp, and a JVC deck, if it makes a difference. as i start driving, my bass cuts out, so as i'm scrambling with some ***** I notice that my volt gauge on my cluster is at about 16 volts. The amp shut off because it was being over powered. i didn't want to do any damage or blow any fuses so i turned the car off and look under the hood for any irregularities, and every thing looks fine. So i get back in and turn her on, and the volts are at 13.5 like usual again, but when i rev it the volts go up to 16, whats going on, The brake light slightly iluminates when the volts are at 16 even though the hand brake is off. Whats going on, i upgraded my electrical system about a month ago, and the alternator is only about a year old. Any ideas guys? Thanks Alot, Matt.

It's built into the alternator, except on 79-80 model years. So you need a new alt.

Poor engine earths can also cause the alternator to overcharge, check those first, seeing as the alt is only a year old.

was it a new one or a reman ? the remanufactured ones can be a bit unreliable

Did you ever have your system cranked and hear some weird noise like you speakers were crackling really bad?

This happened to me the other day right after I hooked up my big 2000wRMS Amp to the stock 55amp charging system, The amp draws over 100 amps by itself and it just toasted the voltage regulator. Now I get some weird readings on my volt meter

I'm looking into buying a GM alternator 150+ amps, i'm wondering if it will bolt in without modification

so it toasted the regulator in the alternator, so i guess my only choice is to buy a new alternator?
