not running right?

the 80 rx7 i have hasnt ran since 89'. Today I finally got it running and it actually runs pretty good. It starts right up, and idles and runs fine. The question I had was when I drive it, it really seems to lack power above 3500 or 4000. I realize its not supposed to be fast be any means, but it just doesnt go hardly at all above 4000. It doenst backfire or do anything else noticeably weird? (this is the first 1st gen rx7 ive really had driving though). Anyway are there any common problems or anyone know what could be wrong? thanks

i changed the fuel filter, not sure about the cat? Also I have never understood something on these. Both 1st gens I have, have the normal exhaust pipe out the rear, but they also have a second small exhaust tube? What is the tube. The both end about 1/3 up the car

80 should have thermal reactor... no cat.

When it hits 3500-4000 does it fall flat on its face? or does it just not keep pulling as it should?

Check yer carb, are the secondaries opening up? Have you done a tune up? Check your timing, check the plugs and wires... Is this the same gas that was in it since 89?

yea it has a thermal reactor. It doesnt lose power completely, it just seems to not pull as hard. The plugs, wires, radiator, oil cooler, fuel filter are all new, and of course all the fluids including the gas were drained and replaced. Ill check the timing and the secondaries
