Don't think you can get them off the shelf anymore, and by all accounts the ones that did come off the shelf were not very good quality. I think dan (if I remember correctly) with the widebody had a set but had to do a lot of work on them to make them any good.

Those don't look bad, but they fit the rest of the car. I don't think they would look right on a stock bodied 1st gen.

I'm in the process of going widebody. Anyone know of any other sleek headlights for 1st gen, before I start rebuilding the original ones?

Your not going to be too happy to hear what I have to say. The aftermarket options basically are: CP racing (which is a complete garbage kit, expensive and you have to try and get it second hand) I originally started with these and decided they brought the look of my car down (you have to see them in person, exposed rivets, low quality tin buckets, cheapo plexi covers etc)

I lucked out getting something different (these were made by a forum member in Norway), he custom made them from a FD kit.

My advise to you is to make them yourself if you want something that looks decen. The biggest reason I went with the different lights is because of the way my intercooler piping runs to the front.

These are the ones I am currently using...

Here are the CP racing lights (once again, stay far away from these)

Here are some more pictures of the car you posted. Note that the red car and the black car are the same, I am pretty sure the lights you posted are "one offs" made for this car.

It ain't right. The Mazda engineers would have regurgitated during their coffee break. Why mess up those perfect lines???

im a firm believer of pop-ups only, but they look nice sometimes.
I kinda like the second gen lights better tho.

^^^Thanks. I think I'll try that route. That thing looks sweet. I just picked up an '85 for my son's first car. We have about 9 months to get it ready. I may need some advice on wheel offsets and body fitament in the near future. Thanks bro.

^^I have much respect for this car in it's original form, but this is for my son. His build, his decisions. I have to respect his creativity.

Steer him towards Low Profile pop-ups.. They look great and he could make them himself and feel more connected to the car than just getting some off the shelf kit.
