non-GSL-SE tranny ok?

I have an 84 GSL-SE. The transmission input shaft bearing is hosed and after talking to the local RX-7 shop, they suggested it would be significantly cheaper to just get a new (used) tranny and swap that in.

As I understand it, other than a slightly different ratio for 5th gear, a transmission out of a 12A car is exactly the same as what is in my 13B car right?

thanks
Scott

The bearing it's self is not that much money, the labor to replace is more.
I believe I saw a Se trans for sale recently on the forum also.
Also Cowboyfun(Ben) has one that has been completley gone thru at one time in excellent condition.

Where are you located?

I'm in seattle. I saddly don't have the time to do the labor but at least the shop was good enough to say what the cheapest option was.

Hopefully i'll have a new to me transmission on the way soon.

thanks

Scott, I will be moving to Oregon soon and I could bring Bens trans with me if you wanted. But I don't know how far away you are. I will be in Central Oregon near the bend area.

You need to an old school bellhousing (pre-RX-7)
Go see Alex @ Action Clutch in East LA so he can make you a new clutch disc with TII spline.

thats all for now but there are other ways also.
