No Power Until 3rd Gear...Whats Wrong?

Heres my question,
I can spin the tires in first gear real easy, but when I take off i have a slow acceleration until i get to third gear.....then it accelerates pretty fast. Why isnt First and Second gear slamming me back in the seats?

I experience that same thing also. Not MUCH power until 3rd gear which is where i feel it. Also my clutch is shot so i dunno what it should feel like.

I guess I have a similar problem as well, especially when I'm in first...but I figured that it was because my RX7 is stock....100hp, and I usually shift at 5,000 rpm for every gear.

I guess

the question you need to ask is

what can be causing power loss in a stock set up?

since its most likely a tuning issue

Malman hadn't responded and I was really impatient to hear g prime's response, so I hoped that my post might get things rolling....I know my stock is supposed to be slow in 1st!

I'll wait...

the 12a motor pretty much needs the short gears though, dont ya think?? if it had long gears then it would be even slower probably!

1st gear is pretty much an excuse to get into second.
There is nothing to be gained by over-revving in 1st gear, better to shift around 4K so that when you get in 2nd you are ready to punch in the secondaries. My old RX4 used to do 60mph in 2nd gear, but my '80 won't pull that off.

I your car unusually slow, have driven others and noticed and difference. Shifting a 4K is like normal driving and wouldn't expect much out of that. I don't even think you get much of a powerband until 4.5K or 5K. If it is unusally slow clean the carb, replace air and fuel filter. Is your car stock?
Hope this is more helpful then my last post.

"No power until 3rd gear?"

Welcome to the wonderful of rotaries. I've never been in an RX-7, even race prepared, that had any power until 3rd gear. Let's face it, rotaries aren't known for their mAdDD TorKue!11 or mAdDD hOaRzePowa!!11one. It's just a fact of life.

Your vacuum secondaries aren't seeing as much vacuum in 1st and 2nd gears as in third when there is a higher load on the engine.

i have a weber 45 dcoe, and my power dosen't come until like third gear, but then she sputters cuz my fuel pump sucks.

*i shift at around 35oo on everyday driving, can i go higher?*

oh and maybe you guys are running to rich and when you get to third gear the bowls run a little lower and your mixture leans out to where it's supposed to be.....just a thought, but i'm a newb. don't even know if that's possible I'm just trying to sound like i know what i'm talking about
