Clean the connection on the wire. Also, install a second oil pressure gague for the double reassurance . I personally got a mechanical gauge rather than an electrical. I figure that I already have an electrical gauge, no need for anotther one. It just makes me feel better that its mechanical...No electrical **** to go wrong. Just use copper tube (not the plastic **** that comes with them) and make sure you have no leaks .

Thanks for your quick response RotorMotorDriver... i've been away for a couple of days... were is the wire thats goes from the gauge to the oil pump? i have no clue where it is. i think it come out when i was taking the spark plug wires off or when my dad put newspaper on the engine and around it to keep it warm...

That wire you speak of goes to the oil pressure sender that is below the oil filter/cooler combo on a stock 84.

the stock oil pressure guage is notorious for being wrong. my dads race car guage reads low, but was told "if its running well, dont worry about it." now an aftermarket guage was installed in the car and reads that the oil pressure is perfect. definately do not trust the stock guage.

Well, I went through this whole thing, and I thought my pump was bad as well. I was told the oil pumps basically never go out. It turned out that something had clogged the pickup strainer in the oil pan, and an oil changed cleared it all up.

The wire youre looking for is a single wire (dont know what color, sorry), with a side on connection on the end. It hooks onto a brass colored bell/bulb looking thing under your water/oil cooler (where your oil filter goes). I hope that helps.
