No low beams

I finally got the dash light thing straight and now I have one more electrical prob. I have no low beams most of the time. Every once and a while they will work for a sec, but then the go right back off. I have high beams just not low beams. I tried that contact cleaner on the switch base and it did not work any advice would be great.

The block for the Fusible Links is located on the forward facing side of the left front strut tower. This is a dark brown box which contains 3 Fusible Links or 5 if you drive an 84/85 GSL-SE. The one you're looking for is labeled 'Headlights' and the best test is to swap in a known good link for a potentially bad one. Testing with a voltmeter won't always tell you that it won't carry the current of the whole system. Fusible links are designed to carry a high load for a short period of time, then a low load all of the time. If the problem is with the initial high-load, (includes running the motors to make the headlight buckets go up), then the link will still test 'good' but not work.

I'm also of the belief that if it's an intermittent thing, i.e. you get the low beams to work sometimes, then it's probably in the combo switch and not in the Fusible Links.

You can take your Combo Switch apart and clean the contacts directly which is much more effective than trying to spray some contact cleaner from the outside. Grab a Phillips head screwdriver and remove the 3 screws on the bottom of the steering cover and pull the two halves apart from top to bottom. From there, you can see the electrical switches on the left stalk that control lighting. HTH,

if all else fails you should just replace the combo switch.

I just made a write up on completely dismantling the combo switch. Its in this section, I think its now down on page 2. Unfortunately I had no intention of doing a write-up, so I didn't take any pictures. however, I had only the roughest idea of what I was doing, and had no problem. Here is the link to the thread - https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/write-up-combo-switch-full-disassembly-cleaning-499367/

Contact cleaner didn't work for me - I had to use a fine nailfile +contact cleaner.

Ok i pulled the combo switch completely apart and cleaned all the contacts and it still does the same thing it did. Does anyone know where i can get a combo switch from. I am tired of everyone on the road flashing there lights at me all the time.
