no fuel

Exclamation no fuel

HI,
I finally put my 12A 1981 in the 1985. The engine start but fuel does not come in the carb. The fuel tank is 1/8 full. I will try to fill it to half, but 'm not if this is the problem.

Any one got quick tips to check first.

did you re-connect the accelerator pump as well? (mounted on the driver's side of the carb)

A quick questrions, since I'm still new and learning thing about RX7. Where is located the fule pump, is it in thetank or on the side of the motor? if nayone got picture of this, I will appreciate.

the fuel pump is on the drivers side of the car near the rear, a little front from the gas tank.

Do you hear the fuel pump whirring with the key in the "ON" position? Some of the 1st gen's did not turn on the fuel pump until the car was actually starting.

that would be the 84-85 cars. its so if the car were to be in an accident and the engine shut off, fuel would not be pumping. im not sure of the danger involved in the fuel pump pumping if the car were in an accident. i can see if the car were flipped, but thats what the rollover valves are for.

Oh, so *that*'s why my car doesn't pump unless it's running.. *grin* that makes so much sense, kinda.

Get a heynes manual for your car, it's the best 20$ you'll ever spend. Fuel pump stuff is in there.

In the meantime, get a new filter, 4$ CDN it costs me, and get under the car near the rear. Just front of the gas tank you can see a tube coming down, going into a filter, and going to the front. Change that. It's something that you should do once in a while anyway, and it's cheap so it won't hurt.


To test if fuel is getting as far as the engine bay, take the fuel line off the carb and put it in a container. Turn the engine a few times, and check the container... if fuel gets there, then it gets into the carb. If it doesn't it's a fuel pump problem.

After that it's either a vacuum leak problem, or a gummed-up carb problem.

testing the fuel line above the carb

Hi again,

I start the engine 5 times 6-7 secondesand unplg the fuel line frm the carb, and the line seem to be dry, not a drop comes out of the tube. So next I will check the fuel filter and the pump. Is there any reset with the fuel pump? I remember my father got this on his Exort 1986 and he have to pull a cord to reset the fuel after an accident.

From: Behind a workbench, repairing FC Electronics.
Remove the storage bin from behind the driver's seat. You'll see a connector with 2 wires... Disconnect it... This is the fuel pump power line.

One side goes towards the front of the car. Hook up a test light or meter to it and turn the car on and try to start. You should get power to it.

Try hooking straight 12 volts to the pump, try either way. You should hear the pump go. Have a friend watch the fuel hose. Some fuel should come out.

If the pump works, then the pump is good. If it doesn't then it's no good... If you find no voltage to the line, then begin looking for electrical problems...

Narrow your search down one step at a time. Easiest way to solve problems... The salami attack.

the rollover valve is a little ball-valve i think, that if the car were to overturn it would close the valve, not letting fuel flow. i believe this is located sorta at the front of the fuel tank up under the body on the driver's side.
