Question No Exhaust...damage?

what will happen if i drive my 1st gen with no muffler on it apart from it being loud? will it do any damage to the engine or the rest of the exhaust? its just the bolts that hold the last section with the muffler came off and i need to get new ones. i need to go at least 20 miles (30 km) to get them and i need the car.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

it will be fine. My muffler has snapped the whole back off of it so no gas is going through the muffler anymore!! I've driven it a few times like this...sounds like a reacecar

it won't do any damage to the engine or exhaust components. all that it will do is make the car really really REALLY loud. mine had a hole in the cat which is pretty much the same as not having a muffler. i drove it for 3 months before i fixed it and haven't had any problems either before or after the fix.

It whistles...???You my friend have a rare 7 if she whistles with no muffler, and hbow can you hear that over the loudness ?? Probably due to the lack of proper exhaust. Worry about it if it is still there after you do the muffler repair.

whistleing? Could be just about anything... I had an 87 SE that all of a sudden started whistleing one day and I couldn't figure out what it was. I thought it may be that the cat was clogged, so I replaced it with an RB race pipe and glass packs, two days later I lost an apex seal on the rear rotor....conclusion: a cracked apex seal.
So if I were you, I'd get a compression check done to be on the safe side.

well it's all good now didnt wanna leave it too long just in case. the whistling i spoke of is gone too, and thank god i did fix it the hearing was begining to feel the impact of the straight through system. Thanks guys.
p.s. i found that on my trip to the exhaust place i got harrased by the cops. they even followed me there to make sure i was getting it fixed like i said.
