NO!...another setback...
ok...so im out swapping all the parts off my old engine onto my new engine like the distributor, alternator, water pump, things like that...and i get to the oil filter assembly...well...all goes well with the top of the assembly...it came right off...but as i was trying to remove the line for the lower assembly (the metal line that runs from the lower assembly piece to the oil pump) and it got twisted up and broke
i have everything ready now except for that damned part...anybody got one they could spare???

thats pretty crappy... i got my 86 oil cooler from atkins dan the other day, mocked it up yesterday, hopefully going monday to get lines built at a hydraulics shop... it'll turn out cheaper than even stock lines, so its all good...

Pick up a "short" rad and under-rad air-to-oil type oil cooler from a '79 to '82 1st gen, or just the cooler from an '84 to '85 GSL-SE or a 2nd gen and swap it in. This will eliminate the need for that metal tube you just trashed since the under-rad oil cooler uses two flex hoses instead. The swap can be made in an afternoon on a sunny day in the back yard.
BTW, if you go this route, spring for the five bucks needed to buy new crush washers for each end of the flex hoses. Nothing so sad as a cracked oil cooler housing caused by cheaping out and trying to use the old washers--- only to find that the extra wrench torque required to make them seal cracked the oil cooler. Welding these costs $60, but only if the shop doesn't have to do the re and re.
