nikki problem
So after installing the nikki it started right up. Idled high but let it run for 5 min took it for a ride around the block ran great. Turned it off wouldnt start back up. Well I adjusted the throttle cable as I remebered that I need to shorten it for the mikuni. I was able to get it started back up after a hour or so. Adjusted the idle got it around 800-1000. I was very happy but now it wont start agian. The floats are about where they should be. I rechecked all the vac lines to make sure no leaks. Installed new plugs. I am kinda at a loss.

ok I can only get it running by poping the clutch or pouring some gas down the carb. Once I get it running not a problem runs great timing good idlies around 1k.

there is this little thing inside the return fuel line, you may not have it if youve gone from the mikuni to the nikki, i dont have one, and i think becuase of it all of the fuel leaks into the engine, making it harder to start.

see the silver thing in the line. you can either get one from a junkyard, or here from the forum, as far as a new replacement, i dont know. maybe someone else can chime in with some sort makeshift replacement.

Check to be sure the choke is working properly. I had a similar problem after a carb rebuild and could only get it started by pumping the throtle. I had to set the idle high to keep it idleing when cold. It turned out I bent the finger on the choke mechanism and it was not opening the throtle when the choke engaged.

Perfect Circle,
You may be on the money regarding the little thing in the fuel return line. I recently went direct fire with three 2nd generation coils and thought I had the perfect system; replaced the fuel line because of a leak, (not the one with the thing in the middle). Would not start, and required long periods of cranking when it finally started clouds of blue-white smoke. I replaced it with one from the junk yard, no problems since. I should have stated that I am using three 2nd generation trailing coils.

The "silver bullet" in the return fuel line is simply a one way valve. More than likely you were not using a return line with the Mikuni, and might have just taken that line off, but you will need that valve since you've gone back to the Nikki.

This confuses me Nick.
yes I deflooded it and checked the spark.
ok I can only get it running by popping the clutch or pouring some gas down the carb. Once I get it running not a problem runs great timing good idles around 1k.
Let me interpret this.
If you attempt to start it by cranking the engine, it will flood?
If you prime it with fuel then it will start, or towing it then popping the clutch it will start?
Did you make sure that you have the vent solenoid wire hooked up?
yes I deflooded it and checked the spark.

It appears no fuel when tring to start but once it is running fuel stats coming from the jets? What would cause this?

Wow that pic looks a lot like my old car engine bay at the first stages of being modded... wait a sec, the intake box lid, the engine color, the car color, the dedicated red electrical line from the positive to the subwoofer, the blue vaccuum lines, the double pulley... that is my old car! where did you get that pic?

Yes the butterflies appear to be closed. Everything moves freely no binding. Yes mechanical secondaries appears to be working right.
