For the Nikki carb experts...
Ok, I just bought an '82 rx-7 (dirt cheap) and there was obviously a problem with the carb. Turn the ignition on, and the fuel flows like mad in the carb and fills it full (and I mean the primaries and secondaries). So, I guess there is a problem with the floats/valves. So, off the carb go.
Since it needed a good overhaul anyway (really dirty and gaskets were bad), I decided to take it apart for torough cleaning and inspection, following my good'ol Haynes book.
Everything went allright until I splitted the carb main body from the carb throttle body. All the jets and airbleeds where removed from the main body and placed in a box(well, that's what I though). Then, when I pulled the main body, I turned it upside down to have a look at the gasket and heard something falling from it. Look on the bench and I find a small piece of brass....seems to be a weight or something.
The problem is I never saw from where it felt down, and I can't find where the hell it went! Anyone know what I'm talkin about??

A small little brass cylinder?
That's the accelerator squirter check ball weight. It goes above the little chrome ball, underneath the big screw that holds the accelerator squirter block on.

There are two wieghts and check ***** in the carb. The ***** are the same size, but the wieghts are different sizes. They are all for the accelerator pump. Right above the accelerator pump is a brass screw. Inside there you'll find the tall skinny little brass wieght and a ball.
Under the nozzel set that squirt down into both small venturis (sits in between with a brass screw on top) is a shorter, fatter wieght, and a ball.
The good news?...
The rebuild kits come with replacement ***** because they get crudded up or rusty. The kits should also include the wieghts, too, I think. If not, a 3/16 inch long piece of brass wire 1/8 diameter will work for the under the nozzel, and brass 1/4 inch long and 3/32 for the housing.
The weight needs room to move, but the ball is really the thing that needs to be exact because it has to seal up the orifice.

Ok, I knew about the longer slim brass tube and ball under the screw above the acelerator pump, but I didn't knew about that other one....The ball is probably still stuck in there. I'll go have a look.

Becareful...I Think that by installing the longer skinny wieght in the nozzle body, and tightening, you can cause the ball to get get jammed in there!

Got my gasket kit today so I went back to work on the carb. The weights and ***** are not in the kit, since it is not a "rebuilt" kit but just a gasket kit (wich includes gaskets, o-rings and washers).
Anyway, I'm okay with the weight and ball going under the brass screw on top of the accelerator pump (the long skinny tube and ball). The second one I'm still not sure though...Is it under the big screw between the 2 small venturis? Is that what you were talking about?
If this is the case, I think there was no ball at all in there before I dismantled it. Anybody know what would be the result of no having the ball in there?

The second ball and weight go under the screw that holds the accelerator pump squirter. The function of the check ***** is to prevent air from being drawn into the system and to keep it primed. You'll need both of them in there for the pump to work properly.

Yeah-your car would **** out on you when you stepped on the gas pedal if you did'nt have the ball in there.
I don't know what to tell you. You need it, plain and simple.
Perhaps if you have to but a rebuild kit, you can sell the rest of it??

Anyway, I found a ball that is damn pretty close enough so I'll use this one instead. I just need my carb to go have the car pass an inspection and after that, in goes the Weber!
I'll keep you posted on how things work...I should be re-installing the carb today....hopefully.

Well guess what...the engine runs now!
You should've seen the crap coming out of the carb using some Gunk.
Still has some mixture/idle adjustement to do, check some vacuums of probably change that accelerator pump diaphragm (a bit damaged) but still, it's waayyy better now.
