Next generation of 1st gen owners

I get off work tonight and deicide to get some gas. Start to fill up and hear someone mumble a sentence directed towards me containing the phrase "rx7". I look around only to see two other occupied pumps and both of them are keeping to their own business. I look again and see a kid about 10 years old walking towards me mumbling "rx7", I tell him that it is. He starts to make small talk pertaining to the condition of others sevens he has seen. I asked "aren't you a little young to appreciate cars from the 80's?" He replied being into the "fbs, fcs and fds" and then asked if I had any "engine upgrades". I explained to just be doing good on the upkeep for the mostly stock condition let alone money and time for upgrades. He said something about it just being a "daily driver". Shortly thereafter I pull away. When doing so he started walking back towards the empty store having me believe he was the owners son which also is the only person in the area that shared the same ethnic background.

If that kid continues with his interest, I might just donate one of my two sevens to him when he is old enough to drive. I will have to give up one of my sevens in the upcoming years and would rather give it away to someone sharing the same passion rather than make a couple dollars off someone just needing a ride.

Yes, but if the kid is that young you never even know if he will still be into cars by then. It would be a great gift if he did stay that dedicated to them. Hell if I were given a seven by another seven fanatic when I was coming of age I'd have been in high heaven and honestly I don't know what I would have done. That is really cool that he knew of the FB. I just hope he does continue his interest in them. At age ten, starting to learn them and everything, he'd know every problem with them by age 16 if he was studying them the entire time. hahaha.

Sounds like me, I used to dream about owning an RX-7 when I was a kid, but didn't get my first until about 5 years ago. There is something ageless about these cars, I hope PT Ray comes through and makes that kids day.

I've been into rotors since a very young age. If you have real love for rotaries you will always be into them. I still want to drive my car when it's 50+ years old.

Now that's just tacky! I do have to admit I left myself wide open for that.

If he was of the same ethnic background as the store owner you won't have to give one to him. He probably went though your glovebox while you paid for your gas and got your address. Asking about the mods was just a screening process to pick the best car. By the age of 16 he will probably take possession of your best one without your control, swap vin's and make it his daily driver.

So I take it that the hope of a next generation of rotary lovers comes from them playing video games. When I grew up, before the digital age, I read magazines for info, now they learn specs on thier Xbox.

Red face

One took offense to my suggestion the "ethnic" kid may steal the car. Heh dude, no racist intentions here, the ethnic background of the store owner was never mentioned (could be caucasion american). Ya gotta have a sense of humor, check my posting history, no racist remarks ever!

Thanks for the clarification, 84, I have a very good sense of humor and appreciate your consciousness-raising comments.

In fact, when I first thought about your first post, I included kids of white Canadian ancestry, of which I'm one, as possible car theives; after all most of the car theives I've known were white.

But still, it seems unfair to label any body by implication of their ethnic affiliation.

I hate it when people call me a Yankee (because I lived in Massachusetts) when I was born in Biloxi and lived most of my life in the South. Racism sucsk, I'm sure you agree, and thanks for adding your note to the post.
