zee vent solenoid is the one wired beastie on the drivers side of the carb, right underneath the fuel input and output. it should be attached, and when power is applied to it, it will go "clunk", indicating that the float bowls are now at atmospheric pressure.

So I located the Vent solenoid, and listend for that clunk. I am pritty sure it did not happen so what should I do? I also notice there is a bit oil or something splatered on the front of the carb. It could be fuel mixed with dirt. Any imput on that? Could it posibly be the problem?
