NEWBY Question

Alright I am new to Carbureators, and I have been trying to tune my stock recently rebuilt nikki carburetor for ages. I have it allmost down pact.

The engines till runs rich, but my question is about the intermidiate circuit. It seems that it does not work. At low speeds/ low lads the car works great. At high loads everything works great. But in the middle the car runs very groggy like. I think the intermidate circuit is not working properly. What should I do to fix this?

I would like to point about I am carburator imparaired.

Newby is spelled newbie

Sometimes you have to wait more than 2 hours for a response...patience. Consider this a free bump.

Oh, and carbureator is spelled carburetor.

I had a similar problem, it was because my accelerator pump was leaking. I assume you probably had a new accelerator pump diaphragm put in, but but maybe the linkage isnt adjusted or something got bent?

Ok, so in another post you complain of off idle/accel problem. That is the Accel pump most likely. Its on the drivers side (LHD) rear of the carb. Its a small rectangle on the rear side of the carb. With the air cleaner removed, look down into the middle of the carb while operating the throttle (engine doesnt have to be running). You should see two small streams of fuel eminating from the pump nozzle into the primary barrels (small ones). If no squirty as soon as the throttle moves, or no squirty at all, then your AP isint working correctly.

Runs rich where? Idle? "In the middle it runs groggy". Is that at steady state RPM? Or during acceleration? DOnt worry, we'll fix that mistake that your unprofessional carb shop did. BTW-Can I charge them for this?

I wish. I know it runs rich at Idle, I have not leaned out the back to sniff the exhaust when burning down the highway. As for the groggines it is under medium loads, while cruising, and aceleration. I will check the throttle squirty, but I am pritty sure I get squirting right away. If I do get squirting right away what other problem could it be?

thanks all

I would check the vent solenoind, make sure its working. Also change the fuel filter if you havent done that, and check the sight glasses for proper fuel level in the carb. It should be halfway up the glass.

On a slightly different topic, what do you guys think of cherry bomb performance exhaust? The glasspack things, are they any good, and if so what ones should i use ( I plan to get into rally raceing)?

Thats waht it'll do in a short time. Rotary exhausts melt glasspacks. Lifespan measured in minutes.

cheap mufflers won't last at all vs. the heat of a rotary. I've heard of higher output turbo mills melting stainless steel wool packing. get something quality, like a magnaflow if you don't want to spring for an entire aftermarket system, or else you will be replacing them very often.

lol I get ya. I think I'll stick with my stockish system, and just fix the leaks. How much power would you say I lose in one exhaust leak?

exaust leaks let the engine breath better.. you dont lose power at all..

and get a cheap glass pack system... we burnt ours out in about a day of easy (breaking in the engine) driving..
best day of my life. everytime i lift throttle from 7krpm it lights up the back of the car like photo radar light up ontario... damn its beautiful!

LOL that sucker must have been very loud.

Alright here's the deal. I checked float level, its good. I tightend the screws on the accerlerator pump so that is good to ( concidering the car is rebuilt i doubt that is the problem). This leaves the vent solenoid. My question is how do I check it?
