hey guys. . .

just some more questions. . .thanks for all the help so far. . .

1.so im driving for 5-10 min. . .and i notice the temp gauge needle pass the middle point and reaches the line at about 66% of the gauge (the line before the HOT side). . .is this normal. . .or overheating?

i open the engine to just check it out . . .and eerything is just SO HOT. . .to the touch. . i mean. . .if i just touch the top of the radiator for .0000000001 seconds. ..i still feel a burn. . . and the top hose . . and basically just everything. .

what do i need to do??

i already did all the basic things. . i think. . . got a new t-stat, pressure cap. ..

do i really need a new radiator???

2. and another thing. . .i just drove the car yesterady. . .and the blinkers were working fine. . .but today when i drove it. . . .the blinkers (turning signals) didnt work. . ..WTH!!!!!!

3. ok. . . uno mas. . . ..
when i drive my car. . . .if the rpm gets low. . . (1000x or less). . .the enine idles or dies. . . ..where should i start???? (i have an 84 AUTO gs)

thanks mucho to everone!!!

You really need to tow it to "wacky's garage" for physical check-up. Bring a case of heine and bbq and will call it quits.

Here goes...

If the rad has alot of dirt stuck in the fins it can be washed out, if the rad is in poor shape than a new one is cheap and easy to install.

Next stock rx7's are equiped with a clutch fan, if it is original it's probably the cause for this over heating.

I'd get a electric fan swapped in, not only does it free up power but it free's up room in the engine bay.

Low oil will cause the engine to rise in temps aswell, a friend of mine almost blew a motor that way. Since the motor consumes oil check level every 2 gas fill ups.

I think Wacky is inviting you to his place so he can check it out. You bring the Heinies and BBQ. That's a good offer.

BTW, I think you're finding out why the PO sold the car, and it also sounds like an electric ground problem. You might wanta take your Voltmeter, too. You may have gotten a good car with a simple problem that frightened the PO, so he sold it quick. That's the way I got my SE cheap: the price dropped when I opened the rad cap to check the coolant.

Yes it's the rad fan. When he say it's a "clutch fan" he means that it's a rad fan powered directly from the engine through a viscous clutch, rather than powered by a seperate electric motor as in newer cars. Sometimes the clutches go and need to be replaced. It's the round thing with fins on it behind the fan.

I've been driving rotarys for 25 years and I've now got 4 rotarys and have never converted to electric and have only replaced one clutch fan (it was dragging slightly for a few years until I got tired of hearing it). On the other hand, changing the fan to electric seems to always cause a lot of trouble to people who do it.

IF the fan clutch is shot then replace it with another from the Pick n Pull for about $10. Or, if no nearby PnP advertise a "WTB" in the classifieds and someone will send you one. I threw my spare away a few months ago because I don't think I'll ever need it.

A new radiator from radiators.com or rockauto.com costs about $120, 3 day delivery, takes about an hour to swap. Also, a radiator shop will rod and resolder for about $100. Water pump from rockauto.com is $50.

kenapachoi must:
1. Invest on a set of craftsman tool set.
2. Buy a repair manual as a bathroom reading material (forget reading them **** while taking a dump!!).
3. Spend a full day at junkyard near his house (yeah 60 Freeway and Milliken near the Toyota Corp warehouse). Be sure to bring lunch and water and no celphone. You need to apply whatever you learned from reading...Practice makes perfect.

thats all for now.

Have you checked the timing, or verified that you have spark on the leading ignition? Maybe check around for vacuum leaks while you are at it. Better yet, just grab a case of Heinekens and head over to Wacky's place.
