Question Hiya, Pardner...

You need to provide us with more details...Year of the car, type of engine, what mods if any, how many miles, what kind of care have to or the previous owner given it? Headers? Racing header, or stock? When did you notice this problem? Help us to help you...

Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....

Well... How red hot are we talking? A dull orange after a good long drive (or a short drive at WOT alot) is probably normal. Of course that's if we're talking about headers, the stock manifold shouldn't EVER glow, it never has on mine.

That said, to truely diagnose if this is a problem, answer Denny's questions He's a pretty knowledgable guy And he's a real great dude.

Ooops, I know its not my post but I was the one that told him to ask the forum guys and to pm Denny, since he was on yesterday.
His car, hmmm.
85 12A with headers, pre silencer and no cats.
Miles, I believe it has between 120k and 150k(i hope that helps), well it didnt have nearly as much as mines(170k).
The car was bought at a dealer, so we dont know how well it was taken care of before.
He noticed the problem around 3 weeks ago, and he parked the car. Well meaning friends(() told him it might be a clogged cat, so he went and sawed it off. But that wasnt the problem.
My friends mechanic told us that the car could be leaning out.
Hope this helps some.
thanks

Well, Buckaroo...

Red hot pipes usually mean lean, like Stinkie says. How does the car run otherwise? Does it backfire? You may want to check the timing. Check your plugs, they usually give you insight as to the combustion conditions....Are they the right color? A nice beige/gray? If not I'd go with cap/rotor/plugs and timing. If you haven't played with the carb before the "Glow" then don't start now. Speaking of starting, how's your manual choke?
