The NEW "What's the status of your car?"

Hey Guys,

There was an awesome thread that came to the surface recently that really kicked ***. It asked people about the status of their car. The problem was that a page and a half's worth of posts were REALLY old, and probably didn't accurately reflect the status of people's cars now.

So here's the NEW "What's the status of your car?" thread.

Note that it's been modified so that you can put in the status of *all* your 7s

Jon

My car has undergone LOTS of work in the last three years. I drove it for three days this summer before I broke the clutch, so right now it's waiting for:

-RB pressure plate and clutch disc
-Rear e-brake cable ends
-Starter
-ACV block-off (have the plate, just have to find bolts long enough to mount the ACV on TOP of the plate to make it look functional )
-Timing check/adjust (no marks on pulley )

And after that it should be good... except I want a set of trunk pistons and a combo switch.. Oh, and I need a replacement stock jack because I fucked mine up, but need one to pass the safety.. Ugh... August, maybe!

Force to be reconed with though: RB clutch, pressure plate, springs, KYB shocks/struts, new brakes all around, Sterling/Rx7Carl Carb, Mallory Comp 70 Fuel pump with holley pressure regulator.... yeah my car will kick ***.

Well ****. I posted in the other one... I guess I can cut n paste...

Originally posted by me in the other thread
I can run up to mine and start it right now... In fact, I did like 6 months ago when I swapped out the magnetic pickups in my dizzy... (It wasn't the ignitors after all, so now I have spares.)

Unfortunately, it's not got proper tags, registration, or safety inspection on it... On top of that, the choke mechanism or cable is seized up, so it fast idles all the time.

The front end is WAY outta alignment and the steering box is hosed... (Bout an eighth of a turn either direction of play...)

Waiting on a little more cash and a chance to haul it to a buddy of mine's shop where I can dismantle it... Already have the CP Racing Rack and pinion kit to replace the box, although UPS fucked up the steering column replacement, so I've gotta wait on that repair.

Technically it is drivable and I took it to the gas station to air up the tires a little while ago, but it's NOT fun with that steering.
EDIT: 6 month old oil should still be good since it hasn't run any and I'm gonna tear down the engine anyhow eh? I'm gonna start it to get it onto the tow dolly. Or I might bite the bullet and drive it to my buddy's garage in the middle of the night.

My car is sooo close to running. I think I have worked all the bugs outa the turbo system. I'm waiting on a boost prepped float for the carb. Then I will start her up and see if I can find anymore. I have put alot of work in her mechanicaly. You can see in the signature that she is far from stock. A 25.00 parts has put me outa commission for awhile.

I spent the down time wisely. I installed a radioshack antenna very nice. I also bent the inner fender lip up in the rear so it wont rub my new tires anymore.

I get to drive mine finally. I had a hell of a time with my gas tank. I has a lining put in it to fix the rust and now I'm good to go. I have oil leaks and the oil pan gasket is no good, thats the next thing on the list.

What about an option for no insurance money. My car is drivable, but I have no insurance since I can't afford it. So no driving my car. I take it around the block once in a while, but thats it.

Rust repair is the current project for me. I can drive the car though provided it's not raining and I feel like putting the wheels back on.

Mine shares parts bin goodies, so I'll include it here. Oh, it even has a few 1st gen parts added by a PO and myself.

Gotta mod the intake manifold, build an exhaust system, fix up the interior soon. For right now it needs me to massage the tranny tunnel to fit a ribcase tranny (PJ is NVS).

My 79 LE is waiting for me to get brave enough to try the marvel mystery oil treatment and try to start her. Some new tires and a battery along with complete fluid and spark replacements and we'll see what happens. Cross your fingers and say a prayer.

My car is sitting waiting for me to find time to work on it. I could say money but there is so much to be done that doesn't cost but nickels and dimes I can't really use that excuse. Ahh someday I will find the time. At least it's warm and dry right?

I have parked mine due to insurance woes and countless carb/fuel related problems . I plan on working on it while it's down. When it's done it should be a force to be reckoned with.

My 85 GSL is running nicely at present. I still haven't gotten around to pulling the other 82 engine, and assembling a complete set of parts to build a nice streetported 12a for it yet though.

Of course, my 82 GSL isn't running at all. Before towing (okay, pushing) it back to my house, it was showing 25 PSI in both rotors... Yeah, it'll be sitting for a while

I drive my baby every day...
But the clutch and transmission need to be done badly... (just got the clutch today!!)
And the front suspension (springs and cartridges) is shot to hell... That's where my next $250 goes...

And she needs a paint job, badly

But I still love driving her :-)

Where to start...

Mechanical

Well the car runs, and runs strong. I've installed Koni struts/RB springs, a Magnaflow and some new Sumitomos. Yet to come is a homebuilt strut tower bar, RX7Carl's rear suspension mod, new driver's side e-brake cable, new battery cables, a relay for my ignition switch to reduce voltage drop, Some polyurethane bushings for the front end, removal of the rats nest and possible reinstall of a rear sway bar, depending on how the car feels after I tinker with the rear suspension.

Body

Rust removal and repair is the name of the game this summer. I have some moderate rust in the rear quarter panels to rectify and a couple of smallish dents in both front fenders. After that it's a whack of sanding, a coat or two of primer, more sanding and an application of the cheapest semi-gloss black paint I can find. Oh, and I'm going to get a ducktail spoiler from Manntis as well.

After that, it's smooth sailing until my engine starts blowing oil all the time instead of just when I'm driving like an *******. Then I'm not sure what to do, rebuild the 12A or source a 13B.

Before I do all this though, I've got to get my new-to-me '77 Civic hatch on the road so I have a spare car when the Seven goes under the bodywork knife. Sounds like the engine has a spun bearing, I'll have to see when I pull it.

It was driveable this morning, but now, well, its not really "legal" yet. missing presilencer (welding closed 6 port tube and fixing a broken stud) and testing fitting the rollcage.
Updates are in my sig for 2004 so far

Im kinda doing a major change. I have a 79 with a 5in camden supercharger. The car is carbed right now. Im going fuel injection with the 7in supercharger and a microtech.

Im selling my supercharger setup, which includes the following. The supercharger, manifold, 600holley, High performance Holley fuel pump, and whatever else goes with the setup I dont need. Im asking 1,500 for the whole thing. "which is very cheap". Everything is fairly new. PM me if your interested...
