New vs. Old?? Opinions needed

I would like some opinions on a couple of scenarios about me putting my 1st gen back on the road. First off this car will be used mainly for the street. I may take it to the drag strip every once a while but this will be mainly a street car.

Around 89 or 90 I had a weber side draft (40DCOE) put in the car on a Lake Cities Rotary manifold and a full Racing Beat Streetport exhaust. I was thinking about putting it on the road with these components until I talked with Robert at the RotaryShack. I was talking to him the OER carb and doing an exhaust around the max power header that they have. How do you guys think the old components stack up against what is offered now?

His header looks impressive. You need an intake to match and porting to match as well.

If you already have the Weber, give it a shot and see how you like it.

Talking to an engine/intake/exhaust mechanic and asking them what they think you should do is like asking a real estate agent when is a good time to buy a house...

They just want your money, I don't care who it is.

Those Weber's, even the older side-draft vs. down-draft, have a good reputation for a reason and were the best thing going back in those days. Good luck,
