New RX - 4 Owner - Have questions
Hi All,
Didn't see a forum for pre 79's so hopefully this is in the correct forum. I'm picking up a 1974 RX-4 two door tomorrow and have some basic questions for you.
The dash is very bad and I was wondering where I could have the dash replaced or repaired. I've checked and couldn't find a replacement dash for her and was hoping someone could direct me to a Mazda parts dealer (on-line).
If you are wondering about the car, it's got 158,000 miles on her and the motor has been replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Not sure if it's a 12A or 13B, so could someone tell me if there is an easy item to spot on the motor to tell the difference between the two models.
She's got a 4 speed manual trany and seems to run good. She sat for almost 8 years and she fired up (with a new battery) with no problems. The paint (silver) is pretty much gone but there is very little rust as she's spent most of her life in the desert.
Hope to hear from you all some time in the future. Thanks for taking the time to read.
Greg

NOt sure who would be able to help you on your dash
There IS a 'other rotaries' section of the forum, they should be able to help you better than us for stuff like that. Welcome to the forum anyway! Happen to have any pics?

will take your old dash and do a full rebuild on it. It costs a bit, But I have read that they do real good work. My wifes mustang mag had an artilce on them.

Hi All,
Thanks for all your replies.
Wackyracer: Nope...high desert as in Susanville California (4200 ft).
jays83gsl: I'll have posession of the car Sunday. I actually own the car now (thanks to the DMV) but won't get it home until Sunday as I have to do some chores/work/duties Saturday. When I get it home, I'll take some pics for future reference and post them here. She's not much to look at, but she's in one piece and she runs well (carb needs to be adjusted).
Hades12: Thanks for the info. I'll check it out soon. First priority is brakes!
Looking forward to being part of the rotory gang.

Wackyracer -
Susanville is 90 miles north of Reno. Not much here, but no smog and not much traffic. Weather is nice during the Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Winter (this will be my first) is pretty cold from what I'm told, but generally, only about 12 inches of snow.
Tell me more about the parts source.
Thanks much.
