New Revolutions installed!

Well I'm quite happy with how these turned out, but I'm going to need a flare kit now, I think. Check it:

The biggest pain is mouting the rim. Since these use straight shank lug nuts and aren't hubcentric, you've got to fiddle with the wheel a bit before the lug lines up with the stud. I'm looking into getting some hubcentric rings for these but the difference between the hub diameter and the inner diameter of the wheel is fairly small so I'm not sure I'll be successful.

Any tips on rolling fender lips?

looks like a monster truck with those tires on it. Get some lower profile tires when you need new ones, and CHANGE YOUR PLATE! you have a SA, not a FB. Besides that, the wheels give it an old school look. Not a huge fan of them, but not bad

I was about to PM you to see if you got them on yet. I take it the studs and shanks are the right ones? Run your tire size, brand and source by me again. They look better than the tires I have, but then mine are a 45 profile autocross tire.

I may have to save mine for the other GSL whenever I get around to putting it back together. They fit the fenderwells better than I thought.

I used generic, off-the-shelf shank lugs that were ~ 1.3 inches long. The washers that came with them fit the wheels like a glove as well. Both were ordered from my local tire store.

The tires are a 205/60/13 Yokohama A048 racing tire, in a medium compound. I'll most likely go with a 215/50/13 set next time 'round. They can be had from any online retailer like tirerack.com.

Those look pretty darn good on there. Have you encountered any rubbing with them?
I kinda doubt rolling the fenders will do much, since they protrude beyond the outside of the lip. The 215/50-13's will actually protrude a hair more, but with the lower profile, they should have a bit more clearance.

Looking closely at the tire, the actual tread doesn't protrude much at all, the rest is sidewall bulge, mostly due to the rounded shoulder of the A048's. The only rubbing I have encountered thus far has been in the rear and it's very minimal. A bit of massaging of the fender lip will eliminate that. As for the front, I haven't seen any rubbing yet. The real test will be at my next Solo II event on Tues.

UPDATE:

I did my regular Tuesday night autocross and the tires did not rub at all. I don't have any pictures of the event but it seems that if there was enough travel for the tire to come close to contacting the fender lips, I had enough camber gain that they 'tucked' rather than rubbing.

So I don't need to roll fender lips/hack up the bodywork just yet but I do think that I'll still want to pursue flares, just to give the car a nice agressive look. I'll update this thread with the results of fitting VW bolt on flares, as they are readily available and should fit.

Just a quick update:

I found some VW Cabrio flares and did some test fitting and with some creative trimming, they'll fit quite nicely. I should have them installed and pictures posted by Saturday. Stay tuned...

The 50's will stick even more, plus I like flares and this is a perfect opportunity to put some on.

The backs will be put on this weekend.
