New owner looking to restore

Well i purchased a 1985 mazda rx-7 gsl yesterday and needless to say it needs a bit of work, the brakes seem pretty sketchy when the pedal is depressed for an extended period of time it goes to the floor but there is still braking but not adequate braking. If you let off the brakes after about 2 seconds and redepress the pedal they are fine? I'm thinking new pads and rotors and maybe a master cylinder. Where can i find OEM quality replacements relatively cheap.
The suspension feels as if it were the original so i would like to replace the suspension as well. The ac compressor and the power steering pump have been removed so i was wondering if that would create a problem with the power steering rack and i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction toward removing the condenser because i have no intention of replacing the AC. I was also wondering if someone could help me with finding info for a complete fluid replacement. If anyone has any relatively cheap oem parts suppliers online i would greatly appreciate any guidance. I am currently using the car as my daily driver and these brakes specifically are making me nervous as hell.

For the condenser, just pull the top cover infront of the rad and then go to work.

Welcome to the dark side.

Brakes sounds like a leak, are you losing fluid if not, you're losing vaccum which means a replacement brake booster.

Condensor as per Hades12 remove all the plumbing up to the firewall in front of the passenger seat, the rest is under dash but you need a non AC heater unit to remove and its a s* load of work at that point.

PS pump is fine when simply disconnected.

Check out the for sale section first.

Do a search on fluids, I only use sythetice throughout my cars, wouldn't go back to dino oil for anything.

Do you have the rats nest (all the vaccum lines) still, if not search this but find out about your regions legality first.

Suspension can be simple or complex, what do you want to achieve.

wow thanks for all the quick help i have skimmed through the first 8 or so pages of the 1st gen forum. Well i have a champagne taste on a beer budget. Basically i have about 800 bucks to get this car to passs inspection and be safe to drive daily for the next 6 months or so.
The reason i purchased the car was that my 2001 celica gts is well out of commision. I learned a valuable and expensive lesson not to race your dailey driver if you have no other mode of transportation. The timing belt slipped and fudged my engine and i need about 4500 to get it back on the road with a used engine. Its an auto so there is really no fun in making it fast because i hate the way auto's shift and this cars tranny is sketchy at best.

i would like to replace the drivers side door and sand and primer the entire car to take care of some surface rust and replace the brakes and struts. I jsut want OEM replacement because my budget is 500 to get it to pass PA inspection and i can do minor work myself but i'm not going to lie im pretty lazy and anything that is labor intensive will not get done anytime soon.

The brakes are most likely the MC, Blead every thing first and inspect what is there. IF it still happens after the blead then do the MC.

You may find that you like the 7 a lot more and can just send the celica to the crusher.

DIY and $500 should be fine to get it up and running in no time, search until you find the parts for sale on here or ebay, save a LOT of $

You'll never go back to FWD once you've run RWD hard.....lol

I bought my '84 for $500. I put new shocks on it (Gabriel replacements) for $83, a new set of super crappy cooper tires ($140), a set of pads ($25) and had my rotors cut down ($16) and I was back on the road with PA state inspection. Get to know your local junkyard, sometimes getting parts is a little hard for the 1st gen 7's.

Go down to the paint store and tell them you want to paint your car flat black. They'll give you lots of options and explain the best ones.

Paint stores rock.

my car needs a bit of over haul aswell. If you want to restor its gonna cost so just start saveing or stop throwing away all those credit card offers
Painters supply has been great on paint advice. they sell ppg mostly.
racingbeat, mazdatrix, (MRCMFG,respeed) black dragon and the local parts store have been my resources for parts so far. Racing beat has been best price for most upgrades that ive seen so far, and for things like lower links i go to rotary specialists they have a wrecking yard FULL of first 2nd and 3rd gens.

are you gonna throw your A/C away? i'm keepin mine and makeing it so its colder n a meat locker in my cab I'm sure theres folks out there that can use the parts. I wouldnt mind haveing a spare compressor condensor and evaporator.

Don't be afraid to pull up the carpet. Be brave.
