New Moderator in town
Hi ya'll,
The past
Many of you have seen me hanging out here for quite a while now. My passion for the rotary dates all the way back to 1972, (Yes, I'm that old. lol) That's the year my Dad bought his yellow 2 door RX-2. Even though I was only in 2nd grade, he would let me shift gears for him while I sat in the passenger seat. To this day, my Dad claims that the RX-2 still remains one of his favorate cars. My first car was a 76 Mazda Cosmo with a 13b that I rebuilt myself. In fact, believe it or not, when I was 17, I had a bit of a rotary rebuilding service going. Me and a buddy of mine rebuilt a dozen or so 12a's and 13b's and we did it all using just the Haynes manual. Oh. and yes...... they all ran fine. I sold "the Cos" in 85 and didn't have a rotary car until Feb 2002 when I bought my 85 GS.
The present
A short while ago I was asked by Ryan Scott if I would help out with a small Apache server configuration problem he was having. Being a Unix zealot I agreed to help and before I knew it I was chest deep in full blown administration of these servers. Over these past couple of weeks I've tweaked, optimized and tuned the configuration to try and bring the fastest, most reliable forum to you guys. I hope you notice a difference. It's a work in progress. Anyway, sometime during this whole process I somehow became moderator of this 1st Gen section. My intention as moderator is to be fair. I see little reason to be heavy handed because, for the most part, all you 1st Gen guys behave pretty well.
The future
I envision this forum to be hands down best place to share and find information about the 1st Gen. These cars are getting old and I feel we need to preserve as much info as possible to keep them alive. As moderator of this forum I want to help make that happen. I know enough about these cars to get me in trouble but there are an awful lot of you that know a heck of a lot more. Unfortunately some of this knowledge has been buried in threads that are now long lost. I want to try to change that but I'm asking for your help. If anyone sees a thread that you feel contains archivable info, by all means please PM me with your thoughts on the subject. I also invite you to PM me with any other issue you feel is important in regards to the forum.
That's all, thanks for listening.

Way to go Bob. It will be nice to have a mod who hangs out in the 1st gen section a fair bit. Okay, alot. Looking forward to seeing some good archieved threads, I know we've lost a few good ones. I'm going to try and find them if I can.
Congratulations again.

This is great, the first gen section seems to have been pretty much mod-less for quite a while now. It'll be nice to have someone that will actually acrhive stuff!

I'm glad to see that we've gained a moderator who already enjoys being here, and understands what we need. I know it's been discussed a lot lately, and it's nice to see that it's finally happened.
Congratulations Bob. More power to you!! No pun intended. Well maybe just a little one.

Cool Bob, this should make the section more interesting, hopefully if your FAQ page takes off we'll have less of the same **** over and over. Oh and I fixed my login problem by making it keep me logged in all the time at this computer, not sure why it wasn't working, but it does now. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out with anything.

Glad to see a good mod on board.
Thanks for all the help on the servers..
If you can bring back this thread, then 95% of the pictures from my "how to" threads will re-appear.

It originally disappeared a couple of months ago.

Sorry that happened DF..... maybe the database crashed or something and it ate the thread. It's kinda hard to really figure it out after so much time has gone by.

Congrats Bob,
We definitely needed a mod that understands our section and spends enough time here. The other sections sometimes get so caught up with making sure posts are 100% on topic that they forget how to have fun Remember the "what happened to IoTus" thread? That would have been locked down SO FAST in other sections !
Anyways, glad to have someone around lookin' after the *nix optimization and the section. Keep up the good work.

Fun fun fun in the sun sun sun
I want to lie shipwrecked and comatosed
Drinking fresh mango juice
Goldfishes licking at my toes
Fun fun fun in the sun sun sun."
