CA New FB owner - need some help on a replacement transmission

Hi guys - new FB owner here. I actually bought the '79 that was auctioned on Bring A Trailer:

No Reserve: 1979 Mazda RX-7 5-Speed | Bring a Trailer

While I was able to drive the car home from San Diego the condition of the transmission based on the auction was severely optimistic and the box needs a full rebuild ASAP since it has eaten internals and sounds like an out-of-tune paint shaker filled with angry bolts.

I was hoping to get some coaching on tracking down a known to be good used or rebuild gearbox.

I am in SoCal.

There is lots to do on the car, and I am an RX7 newbie, so looking forward to being an active member of the forum.

Thanks!

Tom

Good looking 'SA' (first model body)! If your transmission and various other smaller things are all you have to do, you're in pretty good shape. The body and interior look to be great for simple cleanup if you plan to keep it original. Nice find,

Hi. Thanks for the note back.

Planning on keeping it stock looking with modest performance upgrades as I go, but visually very simple and stock.
