You have a great starting car for a nice costom car. Nothing brings a father sun closer than some costuming.
Seriously, it looks like super fun project and a good chance to spend time with the pops.

st catherines eh? ill have to see that car sometime. just make sure your hood scoop works, and your neon is mounted nice and high in the chassis. your car only has 8" of ground clearence.
if you want rimz (yo) you can pay out the ***, or go homebrew with some mustang wheels.. i can tell ya how if your curious.

the stock motor IS a flame thrower with open exaust... i shoot 12" fireballs with every race shift. no extra parts required. just remove the air pump.
get an aftermarket carb and tune rich for shows and parking lots; the ginos will line up to be your friend like pre teens line up for aaron carter.
when getting this motor fired again, pour some oil into the carb throat and remove all the plugs and turn the motor by hand 6 complete revolutions. during this process you should hear two distinct "pssst" noises coming from the trailing plug hole each revolution. the number of revs MUST be GREATER THAN 3 to fully test the engine.. i say six so you can oil up some of that beast on the inside first. dont be shy with the oil... use up to half a litre, 100ml per rev if you like.
per chance your engine doesnt "psst" twice every revolution, you may need to rebuild, or just lube it up some more. this is a homebrew compression test, and works good.
now, when youre ready to try starting the engine, remove the two small connecters from the ignitor on the dizzy, remove the fuel pump fuse and crank that bitch till she makes oil pressure, THEN youre allowed to reconnect all that jazz and see if she catches.. oil, sitting engines are fragile at first.
another thought: check the armature of the oil metering pump (on the front cover, carb side, down low) to see that it moves freely... they like to sieze and a siezed OMP will not lube your engine past idle.
dont start the motor on BAD GAS.. it will foul the "15$ a plug" plugs... very quickly.
theres more, i think, but i cant remember

Haha the list of the above is just the start of it. If you are going to restore this car, prepare for a knowledge overload and learning a ton about how these engines work, how to make them go faster, how to make them look nice and be functional, and how to spend a ton of money and work on a car.
Thats how I got started, I got my RX-7 when I was 15 years old and hadn't gotten my license yet. Since that point of time my life has changed around, I went from having no direction in life to now becoming a automotive mechanic at the age of 18. I have learned so much from these cars it is rediculous. Not only are they fun, rewarding, interesting, they give you something to do, and work forward to achieve as you progress through your project.
This forum is a good place to get alot of your questions answered, and the database from people doing things to these cars before is very extensive.
Good luck on your project, and welcome to the forum!

Well, I don't know how much you know so far about the rotary engine (or if you know that a RX-7 has a rotary engine at this point lol). For starters I really recommend checking out this website, it is a good read and is a good introduction into the unique rotary engine.

I love my 83 GS. I bought it about 1.5 months ago... somone rear ended it last weekend i think or 2 weekends ago... i feel sorry for his truck a littl now... not. at any rate i'm taking the 1125 bones and fixing up the car... going to pick up a bumper and other ***** that will make it look good.
as for information over load hour... they are right get ready... i know more about these cars than i do about a piston one. hard to beleive that... but i feel in love with this car because of its unicness. so i'm in the middle of doing my doors right now.. will have pics up soon onn another post.
Gratz again on the wheels... i'm in a 12a with 174632.4 miles... sorry check before i got out today... oil preassure at idle is 30 and 60-63 depending on how hard i'm getting on it while going. barks tires in second after getting to 6k in first. these cars scoot. (scoot maybe a bad word there but hell they will take off and do it smooth.) Peace.

Welcome to the forums! I've only been here for about 6 months, but only active for the pas 3, and Dan_S_Young is right, that list is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm still a retard when it comes to my car, but just by reading these forums everyday, i gain more knowledge on a daily basis. If you can't get an answer here, you're question is probably impossible to answer then.
Good luck with the car, and have fun with it, thats why they were built.

Good thing they never offered those here, I would have gotten into to much trouble by aiming them sideways and squirting business stiffs with them

Brake line broke? Replace it! Fortunately, the RX-7 is pretty much simple technology with inexpensive replacement parts and rather ordinary tool requirements. The engine is the only exotic assembly, and with a little care it should run smooth and reliably for a long time.
You can get parts at junkyards, sometimes and in some areas, and most of what you need can be gotten by mail from the internet. Go look at www.victoriabritish.com for aftermarket parts (order the catalog), www.mazdatrix.com for OEM parts, www.rockauto.com for remanufactured parts, etc. You can even get bodyparts thru the mail (I got a new OEM leftfront fender for $130 thru the internet). Also, a lot of RX-7 parts are available on eBay: I got an alternator for $35 and several J109 ignitors for $20 (as opposed to the $200 from mazdatrix!).
