new door locks?

so im sanding my car/paint prep and im taking all the trim off the car. well i have these locks that you use a soda machine key, or computer case key to open it up. sure its theft proof, but i want something a little different, also to lock it i have to close it with the handle in the open position or else it will unlock. kind of annoying..

does anyone know where i can get new door locks or locking system?

I thought about shaving mine ... spring load the doors and opening w/ a remote ... have you considered that route?

just make sure your battery doesn't die on your remote.. or the actuators in the doors.. both of these things happened to my friend.. at different times,... he has to get in on the passenger side of the car cause his actuator is burnt out on the drivers side. .

It may also not be legal where you live. A fix-it ticket for shaved door handles would be an expensive repair.

As for stock locks, I believe mazdatrix still sells them. Usually if Mazdatrix stocks something, the local Mazda dealer does too, and sometimes cheaper. You could also try eBay.

As for the holding the handle up issue, that is the way the mechanism works. I think it was so that you don't lock yourself out of your car.

hondas are that way too where you have to hold up the handle to lock the door. its just a safety feature. you can always do remote door locks aka keyless entry. alot of places sell kits for that like blackdragon.

Solex locks!!! I've put these on my last 2 1st gens. They fit perfect with a 15 minute install time. I chose the barrel style because a thief can't stick a screw driver in it and twist it. I'm pretty sure its still on ebay for $59 shipped.

EMS crews can't get your doors open in an emergency. In most of Canada they are illegal.

That law doesn't make sense when you think about it ...

They can't get in if they're LOCKED either!

Exactly - which is why it doesn't matter if your handles are shaved or not. They just reach in and open from the inside after smashing your window.

Changing out the locks doesn't solve the problem. Take a look inside the door.

i know it's an old thread, but i don't think i'd trust a barrel lock anymore than a regular one. i first heard about this trick a few years ago and tried it on my motorcycle disk lock and it took about 15 seconds. i need to get a new lockset myself sometime and just stumbled across this thread.
