New Clutch

Well, my slave cylinder just took a dive and my 7 is out of action until the new one gets here. I figure that now is probably a good time to get a new clutch. The stock one has 144k miles on it and is starting to get weak. I was wondering what people here have used in their cars. My set up makes about 140hp, and I might expand to around 160-180 if I get it ported. I don't want to spend too much and I don't need a clutch that is going to make daily driving miserable.

Say approx 2,500-3,000 lbs pressure plates is good for city driving. the stock ones are single so they are very soft. you want dual diapram. BTW, when u buy them from the store, they wont tell you the actual setting/lbs as all they know is the type as in I, II, III. I prefer 3,500 lbs and anything above that, your left knee will hate it on a stop and go traffic.

Whats the cheapest kit that you've found that was good quality? (say for a 12a 1/2 BP?)

All of my clutches are built by Action Clutch in East LA. they make the RB stuff except on regular clutches, they have to use the Ferodo lining per RB specs. Usually, its around $275 for a puck clutch, pressure plate, aligning tools and machining the flywheel. I never experience a problem nor complain from customers for many years. I find it good to ask the customer for their driving habits prior to doing a job. So I can give them suggestions on what to use. Then I go from there.

For street-use with aluminum or lightened steel, I prefer to use carbon kevlar lining, Unlike puck clutches, this material is not harsh on the flywheel.

Is Action Clutch the same as ACT? If so I think I saw their site.

You said that $275 includes machining the flywheel; is this always necessary? Like I said, I'm on a budget, plus I need to have all parts installed and broken in before May 7th for an autocross-type event.

The CF sounds good, is it any cheaper than an Action Clutch?

for the flywheel go to a machinist and have yours lightened if thats what you want.. gonna cost a lot less than a RB counterpart.

sorry to hijack the thread but what recommendations do you guys have for a essentially stock 12a? im swapping my trans soon since my synchros are gone in 2nd and was just going to get a stock clutch. only real mods i have is exhaust, plugs, no emissions, etc.... so no real HP changes.

.
Ghetto style - then you will need to take that engine apart for re-balancing.

no its not. I have no recent experience with CF. Im too conservative and dont believe in having an weights pressure plate. I only use weights for fishing

Oookay, so I DON'T have to mess with the flywheel?

And I'm still looking for input on good clutch kits. So far I've got 2 different reccomendations, one of which was just unreccomended lol.
