My car has an aftermarket carpet that is a lighter red than the original burgundy. I want the original color. My buddy is selling a carpet set from a 1980 rx7 would that fit in my 85 gslse??

it will fit but remember the cutout for the shifter is 4 inches closer to the firewall and the center consold cutouts will be different. but puter dimensionally it will work.

i don't mind doing a little cutting as long as the thing fits.

yeah it'll fit. you may just have to trim it for the later shifter.

Mazdave is right from what I can remember. I have a friend who years ago put an '83 carpet into an '80. I think the shifter was the only difference. The 85 may have some changes in the center console.

ok sounds good lets see how it really fits. I hope the carpet is in good condition. The previous owner put one of those non molded after market carpets in, and the red is lighter then the original burgundy. Now if i could only get my hands on some floor mats that says rx7 id be set..

the carpet is comprised of three sections. the front section which extends to the beginning of the seat rail's front bolts. the middle section which extends to the bins or metal frame for SA, and the rear which extends over the frame and around the bins to teh rear of the hatch area. an SA rear carpet will be long enough to cover the bin frames. as you had thought you'll have to cut out the area for the bins. be sure to leave tabs of carpet in the bin area so that you have fabric to tuck in the original slots on the bin frames so that the overlap will help keep the carpet in place.

I answered an ad for RX-7 floor mats couple years back and found a place out of Misouri that makes some nice things. They come in a variety of colors with a serged border, you can get an RX-7 or custom logo embossed in and can even mix and match the trim and body colors of the mats. Very good quality but $120 per set. They make a rear cargo matt too. Guys name is Jason; jstrouss@centurytel.net
