New Carb.
Hey,
I just got my new engine from pineapple racing and am going to have it installed next week. What is the best carb to put on my new engine. It is street ported and is made for a turbo. Is there any carbs out there that are made for turbos and are pretty good,
let me know
Brad

As far as all out power is concerned then you definately can't beat the IDA Weber, especially on a ported engine. This is a proven fact.
The various side-drafts and the Yaw Nikki won't produce as much power but are argueably more "streetable"... according to some.

right... the "best" carb is the stock one, because it works with no hassle and it costs nothing because it came with the car.
or the "best" the 48IDA which costs $600-800 for the carb, $300 for the manifold, and lots of time/patience/money spent tuning the carb for your application, and will outpower almost everything. (RB claims the 48IDA costs 10hp over their Holley kits on a bridge port, but Holleys need a lot of work to right right under all conditions)
or is the best the best compromise between the two? to which end should the compromise be, towards foolproof and inexpensive or towards outright power?

If you want to buy their ''kit'' that is just a carb and intake and some POS foam filters, go ahead. I tried to save some money buy getting their setup and I regret it now. Just make an OMP block off plate while you are waiting for your carb to come.
Especially since the guy I talked to on the phone told me that I ''don't need a throttle bracket, just hook the cable up''... WTF?
I also never got the tshirt and hardware kit he said he was going to overnight me...

What do you mean it was made for a turbo?
Is it low compression.

The builder of an engine (especially an experienced name like Pineapple) will know the best recomendations for your application. But something else to concider is that you may very well need to go with their recomendations to keep the warrantee, No?
At least you'll have the fact that they recommended "such 'n such" a set-up in your back pocket should anything crap out on you inside a year.
I used to adamantly preach "Yaw Power!". Then I went to, "It's all about what application you need (street drag, full out race, bit 'o both, ect).
Then after all the arguements online, I resigned myself to saying that my Yaw has kept me quite happy; However, I have no experience with anything else on a rotary and am therefore unqualified to give any objective opinion (Like anyone could give a purely objective opinion anyways!)
Now I just say this...
Get what you want. The carb with the biggest number of "Boo!"s is the Holley. But it still has a following of satisfied owners.
Even if you got the Holley that few people seem to like, you will probably have NO PROBLEM selling it in 6 months or a year after you decide you want something different...especially since this forum will no doubt boast "...with over 56,000 members, you'll be sure to find a perfect sex-perv match!".
Usually more money means better, but only with proven parts that've been around on the tracks for a while. (I.E., don't sucumb to the Sport Compact Car rice-parts ads)
So get what you can afford, and just upgrade latter!
It's not like you "use-up" a part like a carb, right?

Yes, ask Pineapple what they recommend! I am very interested in finding out as well.
I'm running a holley kit on a street port 12A rebuilt by Pineapple Racing. It works fine. I got the intake kit used for a decent price. If I could have found a side draft setup when I was looking for carbs. I would have wen't that route instead.
good luck, happy tuning.
BTW, I've always heard that turbos + carb. is a real nasty setup to tune. Let us know how it goes.

I am curious.. what negative things do people have to say about the Holley from RB for a stock 12A? I've been considering it for my next upgrade over the stock carb, but if there's some reason I shouldn't get it, I'd like to find out now before it's too late.

RB charges insane prices for some of their stuff... they want $208 for "Race Float Bowls" to convert the stock side-hung bowls to center-hung (superior.
Anywhere else you can get that stuff for WELL UNDER $100. Heck just go to a swap meet and get any old double-pumper for $25-50, scavenge the fuel bowls from it, and use the carb body as landfill or give it away to a boinger-luvvin friend.

What is the problem with the "stock" side hung bowls on the RB Holley? Are they not the same as how the original Nikki is set up? Bear in mind that I'm an idiot when it comes to carbs.
