Need spark plug help

Need to find a cheap place to buy spark plugs.
Also what is the best plugs for the GSL-SE

I have been using NGK- BR9EQ-14 in the GSL-SE
and NGK BR8EQ-14 in the GS.

Should I stay or go hotter? The GSL-SE has 171K
And the GS has 130K.

My main problem is since I moved here to TN I can not get the plugs local. A store about 40 mins away can get them but they are 8.55 each.
What happened to 2 or 3 bucks? Man sure do miss Tampa

Thanks for the help.

Best price I've gotten on them was like $6.80 at NAPA.

So should I stick with the stock plugs?
I remember reading somewhere about using 3rd gen plugs in the GSL-SE.

5 bucks apiece at Schuck's auto parts. That's for the BR8EQ14 plugs. I think the 8s are one heat range hotter than the 9s, unless NGK has changed the way they rate the heat range. Shop around, there are decent deals out there

How often should I change my plugs. They have a little carbon on them, but not much.

Clean them up with a brush and inspect them. Any corrosion? Any thinning of the elements? Any cracking at all is a reject. If you have two sets, one for ATF treatments, and one for regular running, that is helpfull.

Definately stick with the NGKs

I just called them. They do not stock them at Autozone due to no demand. Advance auto can get them but do not stock them. They cost 4.99 each
The price is getting a little better.

So is the BR8EQ hotter than the 9? If so the 8 is 4.59.
This way I can by a box of them for the GSL-SE, the 83 GS, and the 79 Streetport.

BTW- My 79 Streetport was built by Jim Downing's builder and it has Autolight #2526 plugs in it.
Are these any good?

If I'm not mistaken, Autolite = Allied Signal = Fram filters = total crap. I wouldn't trust them like I do NGK, that's for sure, and I think that the NGK's should be replaced every 10K, maybe 15K miles.

You know why the plugs for rotaries have 4 side-wires? I'll give you a hint: it isn't necessarily for best performance.
As I previously stated, the "8" is the heat range and is "hotter" than a 9, which makes it better for in-town driving vs. open highway driving. -Mike

SE's have recommended plugs for all driving conditions as NGK BR8EQ-14's - plus, the 'How to Modify your RX7' book states that this plug is great for street engines up to 400-450 hp, as there is little that can be gained by using another type or heat range plug if the engine is running correctly.

In that regard, I have always run BR8EQ-14's without any problem, and best price is at BAP, for $5.99 each. A $25 tune up accessory, but well worth it.

Plugs seem to last about 25-30k mi, by that time I feel like changing them just because they've been in there for awhile. Keep your old set, however, as they can be handy for blocking plug holes while you check for spark. HTH,

Autozone does not sell NGK plugs period. I should know, I manage one. We do sell Denso however, and that's what I've been using in my 85 GS. They're $3.99, and we keep them in stock. Part #3104

I know a couple of people that use them with no problems, myself included. The guy I bought my car from used them in several cars he's had.
