84 with a 12a is a GS or GSL. If it has disc brakes all around it is a GSL.

Fuel door release is on the left side of the steering column next to the rear hatch release. It is the closest to the column. Pull to release the fuel door

i thought 84s had silonoids and swtiches to control both of thesee things. the pull downs are not there on my car at all.

I believe they are solenoids and I can't understand why they wouldn't be there. I have an 84 GS and both the hatch release and fuel door are on the left side of the column next to one another. You push to open the rear hatch and pull to open the fuel door. I suppose it is possible that the previous owner removed them (why??) and the connections are under the dash.

For drifting, either find a GSL rear end or weld that sucker....

without damaging the 7 preferably. Still would be looking for the connections so you do not have to use the screwdriver method at the pump.
