Need quick help with my nikki

Ok so my gas levels were a little high in the bowls (top of the sight glass) so i pulled off the top of the carb to clean up my floats, jets, and needles. I have a couple of questions.

First off, from a spare carb i have sitting around, the needles are about 2mm longer than the ones i pulled from the original carb. I trust the original carb better, because the newer carb wasn't rebuilt very well long ago. My question is which ones do you think i should use?

Second question. There are little filters that go between were the gas comes in, and the ??retainer?? ( the thing that the needles sit in) My question is do I have to re-use these, or can I toss them because mine are quite filthy.

Thanks for reading

Unless you have reason to believe the needles are sticking, use the ones that were in the original carb. I wouldn't throw out the screens. Use some carb cleaner to clean them and put them back in place.

Here's some links that should help.

79-85 Carb manual
84 carb pictures
