need new fuel pump

i believe my fuel pump is starting to go bad, i have to give it gas to start it everytime even if i'd just cut the engine off. there's not enough gas going into carb. my car is an 85 rx7, 12a engine stock, anyways i was wondering if there's any aftermarket gas pump you guys recommend, for a nikki carb, or a better (favorable) brand of "stock" fuel pump. i'll take any tips i can get. thanks.

i haven't changed it recently, but it should still be good considering it was changed back somewhere between late October mid November somewhere around there can't quite recall, i was thinking about changing all that anyways, i don't know if you guys have that problem where you have to pump gas into the carb even if you just had turned the car off after driving it, meaning after the engine was pretty much well warmed up, it still needs to have gas pumped before cranking it back on.

Before you start assuming that your problem is fuel related you need to check a few things.

Inspect the float bowl levels through the sight glasses to verify where your level is at.

Perform a fuel quantity test. The procedure can be found in a Haynes or Chilton manual if you have one. If you do not then download a copy of your specific year FSM via the link in my signature.

I would also look for vacuum leaks.

Doc has you fixed up...

I replaced a fuel pump once because the car would stammer on the highway... After putting the pump in, the car ran no better.

Of course I had just painted the car and left the gas cap off (with a rag in the inlet tube) and guess what - the paint had gotten in the gas AND plugged the filter! The filter at the time was only 3 months old but had done its job....

A faulty fuel pump will show symptoms while driving, not while starting. You have a tuning issue.
